Checked my source (Yggdrasil) just to make sure no issues and it works fine with other amps.

No signal coming from the pre-outs either.

I will say the gain switch has always been a bit of an issue trying to get it to go into low gain correctly (usually have to fiddle with the switch just a bit to get the channels to equalize). Other than that, no issues. The amp made no noise or smoke either.

Bad gain switch might throw it into protection mode. Seems like the prime suspect.

@roshambo123 I worked at Best Buy for a brief moment and we would get things at cost +5%. AQ cables were like $10-30 each.

Looking more to FPGA esp if they tier it under the Yggdrasil for mb. I thought FPGA was more bang for the buck because less chip costs

The 80's definitely had a lot of "but let's do it with synthesizers!"

People can only listen to so much. The more music that is made, the more bad and unheard music there will be, and the runaway winners will still be only a few.

Seen mixed reviews on those, but it's cool they're an option. 800 stock pads are kind of an anomaly in the headphone world, seems that most people prefer them.

@roshambo123 its a good question that im sure is important for many. I am just not that person unfortunately- I’ve been such a speaker guy for so long I don’t pay attention at all to headstage - every headphone pretty much sounds the same to me- sound at my ears or in the middle of my head. Although I can tell some subtle diffs between say the HD800 and HD650, it’s not that significant to me that I pay attention to.

If you are up for diy i made a switchbox a while back with a non shorting Elma 4x6 switch. Used it to switch between 3 devices with one set being hooked up to transformers for se. But ofc you can design it however you want.

Simplest is just a pair of XLR splitters like this:

The thing I'd watch out for on "vintage" amps/etc is proprietary parts like electronic controls and ICs.

Been working great, love the sound. Ordered a new remote for it from Ayre. I expect (and have heard) that Ayre's support is among the best. You may still be able to upgrade it.

Last thing, all Ayre much prefer balanced input.

Other reviews also seem to agree that this is the opposite of the Denafrips sound (more analytical/incisive/resolute) but without the harsh drawbacks (a la most Sabre DACs) apparently.

Desktop friendly dimension with global voltage selector makes it travel friendly.

I visited a friend who has an inexpensive setup with small book shelf setup nestled between 4 monitors. It was pretty pleasant. I like my headphones, but the best sounding ear pads for me are also the most uncomfortable.

@SoupRKnowva maybe some coaxials above the monitors on the left and right pointed towards you?

@SoupRKnowva, just replace the two monitors with a Dell 38" ultrawide and then you won't have that problem. If you're using dual 24" monitors you may gain resolution this way too. :)

Last night I moved from my main rig (DNA, Holo, Yggdrasil, Utopia, ZMF, etc.) to my Shanling dap w/ jar650 and played some of the same songs. I thought the same thing - how this singer/music sounded so bland, how different it sounded without any headstage of any kind, etc. I had to switch to music I had not heard on the main rig recently! :)

I usually wear BT buds for my commute, but sometimes break out a pair of Nair and plug directly into the phone. And dang, I shake my head realizing how much I'm missing. You need contrast in order to appreciate how good you have it. There is reason for keeping low-midfi stuff around haha

All the songs are good but I really dig New Gold and Skinny Ape.

Some of the features on it were unexpected, but yeah it's a great one from end to end. Better balanced than Song Machine which had highs but also lots of lows.

I was pleasantly surprised at CanJam by the Vali3. With a Modi (IDK if multibit or not) feeding the Bokeh open it was one of the most pleasant experiences I've had.

How about overall instrumentation altogether. All the popular music sounds like now is a very stripped down version of a song. There is hardly anything there. I blame these "search for the greatest singer" contest shows. A band like Chicago or Three Dog Night would not survive in today's climate.

Yep still the LS6. Just can’t let go of them, they’re so damn good. Tried P3ESR and they get close, but just not there. Where did you see/hear about the revisions?

On the Graham Audio facebook page (and there is a Graham owners private group on facebook that shares stuff). I may have spoke too soon though, because the design they show it on is the 10th Anniversary model they are rolling out. Oh shit, those are awesome. Going to be way, way too far out of my price league, but would love to hear the LS6 with TL port (the 5/9 looks great too). I bet it will tighten up the bass considerably (one of the LS6’s weaknesses IMO).
