I also noticed that on Qobuz, I often get a brief stutter when hitting play on a new track. Just on the first 1/4 second at the beginning of a track. This is on the MacMini. Android seems ok.

Tidal has a bad habit of dropping out of the HIFI setting and down to High when I play some new stuff on Win desktop app. Be sure to check you SQ settings on playback.

@bixby I've noticed that recently too, but on my work computer where I can only play within a browser, and not through the separate Desktop application. It says that HiFi is only available through the Desktop app, so weird you're getting the same drop there.

Has some strong tracks, but doesn't seem to leave as much of an impression on me as Ænima and Lateralus.

It’s a good album. But it doesn’t stack up to Lateralus. They sound tired. Too proggy. 7empest sounds like a flaccid version of Ticks & Leeches stretched out to 17 mins. In short, Tool on LSD > Tool on wine. But I’m still psyched to see them live in November.

Dont get me wrong, I love Aenima and Lateralus as much as the next guy, but I think Fear Innoculum is their best record

You guys got me curious about the new Tool album. Hadn’t heard much Tool before. The new album is growing on me.

Ha - I have the prior Tool stuff but it was never compelling enough to get into rotation. This one just maybe.

You people have got me curious about /Tool!/

Don't do much new music exploration, but I'd better give them a listen.

(Condition of ears these days is that even old music doesn't give satisfaction like it used to. Sob. I only come here for the friends and the porn.)

Yeah, when this latest album came out and everyone started talking about TOOL, I listened to bits and pieces of the old stuff but couldn't get into it. I originally thought I would just pass on the new one. Now that I have my own office, I've been playing it at work on HD-650s and a Fulla 2.

I bought a used copy of "1001 Albums you must hear before you die" for cheap. It's been a lot of fun exploring stuff I've not heard before.

Back in the day I think a coworker used to get All Music Guide and I'd look through it when I had a chance. I also used to love Rolling Stone and SPIN which would review some fringe stuff. I had a "free" RS subscription last year and it wasn't even worth that. By the third issue they went right into the trash.

Yeah Spin especially would review some good stuff. Had a subscription back in the day.

Not the same, but this made me think of ~16 years ago when I didn't have the internet and the only way I found out about new music was to look at the liner notes of albums I loved and see the bands that were thanked, and then track down their releases. Wouldn't go back to that, but there's something magical about discovery when it's not just a matter of a few keystrokes.

Wife bought me a pair of AirPods for my birthday. I was thinking, like I need more headphones, and these things are overpriced.

convenience is great, short term listening to some new track. ok. said it before- quality of AirPods is acceptable for telecons and talk radio. shove a CA Polaris w/ Lightning cable into an iPhone for obvious improvement.

I’m not really an IEM guy. I have an ancient pair of Etymotic ER-4Ps that I use on the mower underneath hearing protection. But they get get itchy after a while and then I need a good hillbilly ear dig.

Jeez that sounds cold out. You need quad mono 2A3 amps for your mobile sound system.

Funny you mention car amps. I think my sub amp blew a Hemi yesterday. Or blew a fuse, but no boom boom since the extreme cold.

Heil AMT tweeters are pretty cool. Experimenting with these on Klipsch Heresys.

I just traded my Bifrost MB for my buddys pair of Klipsch Heresy (cir. 1978) in oiled walnut. These might inspire some future DIY projects.

Fortes are my favorite of the Heritage line. Always wish there was a slightly bigger Heresy. Great speakers regardless

I sold a crap ton of Forte IIs back in the day. Probably the most popular model in the line back then. I have no experience with any of the "III" models.

They didn't come with the optional risers. But they did come with some appropriately sized wood stands
