Almost as detailed as a Stax 009S but way more listenable. Sub-bass is there. Only drawback seemed to be slight lack of dynamics. A heckuva an all-rounder. 2) Stax 009S (Via Stax ss amp). I wanted to dig these, but the bass just isn't there. Throws a lot of detail but in a way I find too in your face. Still, I want to hear an 007.
3) Meze Elite. Less dark than the Empyrean but still pretty dark. Good bass. A "fun" HP, but lacking some detail compared to others. 4) Utopia 2022: Hmm. The Susvara beat it in most areas, but it has better slam and dynamics. Immediate take: missing the magic of the OG Utopia.
Feliks Envy is a big, impressive-looking, well-finished amp. It pretty clearly had enough power for the Susvara. I heard it being somewhat romantic but not too much. It's too much $$$ for me, and I'm in a solid-state mood these days anyhow, but the Envy seemed generally quite good.
Loving this ongoing series of mini reviews of gear I will most likely never hear lol. Your terse but to-the-point impressions make me feel like I have though, or at least make me happy with what I have :)
Glad the posts are of some interest! It's pretty much all been at dealers in and around London. Mega-city with lots of small flats = lots of HP listeners? I've been a little surprised myself at how much there is to hear near-ish to me.
If I wasn't restricted to HPs myself for serious listening, for the next long while, I probably wouldn't be entertaining such summit-fi explorations. I'm sort of hoping I get along with a used pair of LCD-4Z or maybe Stax 007, but I expect I'll find them compromised in comfort and FR respectively.
