Measurements are not god. But I tend to be suspicious of any dogmatic approach. Surely, some measurements certainly do measure, or reflect, or describe, how it sounds: frequency response?
The crazy part is basing decisions on measurements that are inaudible anyway. The ASR road?
And hey, I've enjoyed so much hifi kit without knowing or caring about either specifications or measurements. No way are they compulsory!
I'd be cautious of saying measurements DON'T matter. If you're familiar with how you hear certain headphones and see measurements on different setups, it's possible to use them to get some information, and the use of new things like Marv's burst response measurements are quite interesting
That being said, measurements obviously do not tell the whole story. There's no way to measure timbre for example. Or stage. This is why it's important to use measurements correctly as it's explained in the top of the page; a HEALTHY way to understand measurements. They shouldn't be an end-all-be-all thing.
