The bass solo at 2:05 is pretty sick

It still give me goosebumps every time I listening to this. The guitar picking and crying part is so beautiful yet sentimental.

Well, this may be a little in the "older and not quite so cool anymore" category, but I used to enjoy the exchange of solos between the two guitar players in Judas Priest. The solo in Rock Hard Ride Free, from the Defenders album is pretty enjoyable. It begins at about 2' 34":

The loss of KK Downing (and anyone caring at all) is felt really heavily on the comeback stuff. I think they all stopped trying after Painkiller. Even the lamer 80s stuff had interesting solos.

Sepultura up to Chaos AD when they got really bad was similar:
Schizophrenia through Arise are kinda cut n paste albums but have great stuff even if the riffing isn't nearly as creative as the first record. Very cool, almost ambient melodies. Not quite James Murphy or early Burzum but more a cooler version of Kirk Hammet's good stuff

I am a sucker for a good guitar solo. There are too many to mention, but one of the many players that always amazes me is Steve Morse. The whole song is something of a solo, but the interplay that starts happening & builds from about 3:00 on until it peaks is just crazy.

Ok, ok, that is also excellent. Rust in Peace is for sure the gold standard of Megadeth albums. But have you heard the Dystopia album? Check out this instrumental piece.

^ newer Megadeth albums good too but they're missing the depth, complexion, and special something that is Marty Friedman (not to poo poo you or Kiko, etc.).

For example, just going over a guitar lesson, you can tell that he could dive pretty deep down into the rabbit hole if he wanted. IIRC he is also decently well versed in traditional Chinese and Indian (subcontinent) music theory which greatly differs from general Western music theory:

On the flip side, Megadeth is consistently solid right now. Some of the stuff after Rust in Peace was a little questionable IMO, Friedman or no.

Here's a good song by Ritchie Kotzen. He did stints in both Mr. big & Poison at times besides his solo career & recently in the Winery dogs (with Mike Portnoy & Billy Sheehan). His 1st solo from about 2:50 - 3:25 is quite tasty, then he finishes the song from about 5:25 - 7:45 basically trading licks with himself.
