FS: Sonett 2

Hey SBAF! Some of you may have seen my recent impressions here on the Sonett 2 against the SW51+:https://www.superbestaudiofriends.o...sions-simple-set-amp.8042/page-25#post-332068. If you have, you'll know I prefer the SW51+. So I'm deciding to sell the Sonett 2 to fund my ventures into the 2-channel world.

I bought this from @pure5152 on these forums. It's in really nice condition: can't see any visible dents/marks/scratches on it. Conservatively, guess I would rate it a 8.5/10, just because it has had a few owners. Comes with two of the RCA "coke-bottle" tubes, the stock rectifier tube, and a rectifier tube of unknown origin in China, as well as two electro-harmonix driver tubes.



As far as pricing goes, I bought this for 975 (Shipping included) through F&F, so I'm looking to get around $925 total out of this transaction. So the price would be either $925 + shipping F&F or $960 + shipping goods and services. Open only to friends and known contributors for the first couple days, but I'll potentially open it up to others if nobody bites. This is now open to everyone else: same price as for friends and known contributors for the amp itself, but you also need to provide proof of a recent $50 dollar donation to SBAF. Let me know if you have any questions...definitely open to talking about the amp.

One note I should mention: this amp only has an XLR out! I'll throw in a 6x0 or ZMF cable terminated in XLR for $25 if anyone is looking to pair the Sonett 2 with those!

Glad to see this up for sale on sbaf again! It's basically going on a kind of SBAF loaner tour at this point Someone should snatch this rare amp up! (Only 18 were made IIRC).

I will say I think that this amp and DNA amps in general seem to benefit more from more neutral, slightly incisive dacs. The sonett 2 and starlett sound great using the gungnir multibit a2 for example, but I don't think with warmer leaning dacs it's a great pairing (a little bit too thick imo), especially when using warmer-leaning headphones too. Just something to note if you're planning to purchase the amp. With something like soekris 2541 and gungnir a2, I imagine it would have great synergy with a wider range of headphones.

Also @HotRatSalad ping because I know you were interested in the amp before but shipping distance was a concern-- it's a lot closer now since dematted is on the east coast if you're still interested.

 

Been Lurking this forum for the past few weeks since I got my HD800* and I know I will be low on on the totem pole because I am a 'rando' but if you end up opening this up for more than just F&F consider me ready to purchase.

I recently emailed DNA but the price of the Starlett, although obviously worth it, is out of my budget at this time.

If only, I didn't get the Baldur energizer, I would've taken this in a second! GLWS! I saw it the last time it went on sale and was thinking about it. I'll hold on to my Bottlehead S.E.X for now.

 

I absolutely think that is fair, I would be more than happy to donate, I have already take so much value from this forum and look forward to meeting some of you characters at meets if the world ever goes back to normal...

Appreciate the ping upthread. This is much more tempting now that it's so close and the shipping nightmare has somewhat improved. I'm sort of at a crossroads with my audio. I'm honestly tired of messing with gear and gear cycling ! My heart is set on a Starlett but my mind is rebelling against the expense and wait times.

My goal is to have one top tier tube amp and one good/great SS, Jot 2 will stay. Unless a BHA1 is better ? Still waiting on these impressions. I doubt it though, Jot 2 is special IMO.
So sell ZDT jr which I like as much as SW51 and Liquid Platinum and buy this amp ? That's what I'd have to do, but I feel happy bouncing between my 3 current amps. Probably laziness ! I hope it sells so I can forget about it !

 

Sounds good, @HotRatSalad. Just let me know if ya change your mind. Given that you did me a big solid in letting me have your SW51+ when I was in need of an amp, I'd be more than happy to knock $30 dollars off the price for you. But honestly, I think you'd be better served by waiting for a Starlett if you're looking for an unambiguous upgrade over the SW51+/ZDT Jr.

 

I'm giving this one last bump. Really would prefer to sell this here rather than head-fi, but if I don't get a buyer by the end of tomorrow night I will probably post there. Someone buy this to keep it in the community!

 

Ok, I'll bite, PM incoming. I suppose I can probably sell it for the same price here or headfi if I decide to move up to the Starlett, and I'll have to finally sell some things I've been too lazy to list.
