I'm sticking with Multifrost myself. Don't really feel like having a Bimbo sitting beside me. :D

Awesome! Let me know what you think!

P.S. Do you have a Bifrost Uber you're upgrading to the multibit or the regular Bifrost?

Definitely will post impressions. Yes it was an Uberfrost from new. Really missing it right now. Using an original Modi in its place.

In the meantime, can you post your impressions of your original Modi vs Uberfrost?

I find Modi to be brighter, The treble seems colder and a bit harsher. The lows don't seem to hit as hard either. Enough so much that I don't really enjoy my HE400is in this setup. My HD600 work better with the Modi. Soundstage is definitely smaller. I noticed this in a comparison I did for myself a while back using my speaker system. It was noticeably narrower and flatter. With the Uberfrost my listening sessions were never limited by fatigue. I found it easy to listen for as long as I want. For me it just felt like the music was far more alive. Much more toe tapping. Those are my brief difference impressions.

You're doing it all wrong. The bimbo should be stacked on top...

    First Impressions:

Compared to past DACs I have used and owned, sold, and returned (WA7 DAC section, DA8 [Let's not talk about one :(], AK240 [or this one :(], AK JR, HRT Music Streamer II, Fiio X5) the most immediate difference to me is the soundstage. Between my old DACs, I honestly felt the soundstage differences between each DAC was pretty tiny and the sense of space and imaging I felt from each DAC wasn't very noticeable. The Schiit Bifrost Multibit is the only DAC I have ever listened to where I could sense this gigantic difference of soundstage and it was the most immediate thing. I use everything with my HD 800s and common opinion was that the HD 800 always had a gigantic soundstage but I have never personally heard it on my own HD 800s until I got the Schiit Bifrost.

As for other technicalities, I feel the difference is much more subtler although I feel like everything is much crisper and I'm not really good at describing sound (maybe one day) so I'll leave that to the rest of you.

The only thing I really want to point out is the expansion of soundstage and how realistic it feels. It really changes the experience to me of listening to the HD 800. Also it sounds like a very realistic soundstage where if the music is more intimate it is intimate but if there should be a sense of vastness, there will be a sense of vastness. It is a major difference for me and probably one of the only DACs I own where I can say with 100% confidence that I can tell it apart in an A-B blindtest from any of the DACs I have used before.

Now the only sad part is I can't stop thinking how the Gungnir Multibit and the Yggdrasil sound.

I gotta be honest... I kinda hope I can't hear a real difference between the Schiit Bifrost Multibit and the Emotiva Big Ego into the same amp. Being dac-hearing-impaired would save me sooooo much money.

Well the Multifrost just arrived at work. I'll put it right back in my stack at lunchtime so It'll have all afternoon and early evening to warm up. My evening is now reserved for auditory pleasure. :D

I think that Sylafari has said it best in this impression, with which I agree.

In my opinion, the improvement in resolution from the MultiFrost to Gungnir MB is larger than from Gungnir MB to Yggdrasil. However, I would rather experience the Multibit Magic with the MultiFrost than listen to a slew of technically more capable (and many are much more expensive) Delta-Sigma DACs that just don't provide this level of auditory satisfaction. So with both the GuMB and Yggdrasil in the lab, why would I spend time with the MultiFrost? Because it sounds very very good and I want to find out just how far it can be pushed. Will have a variety of head amps to pair over the next several months, from BH Crack to Liquid Crimson and EC ZDSE and plenty in between. Schiit should be given an award or something for this trio of incredible multibit DACs.

A brief impression from listening last night is as follows. Setup was Vaio into Multifrost (warmed up over 6 hours) into Lyr with LSST. Cans were HE400i Very dynamic. I was listening at lower volume settings than normal. Listened to a lot of guitar based music. Some acoustic, some electric. I also threw in a few jazz cuts for good measure. I'm not sure how to put into words one of the things that stood out for me. It was kind of like the music timing was different. Perhaps quicker? Fast attacking maybe? Next was a sense of being in the middle of the performance. By that I mean something along the lines of this analogy: Instead of looking at a painting in 2 dimensions, I'm more in a movie in 3 dimensions. I was immersed. More thoughts will come with more listening.
