Hype gone if it's about a MrSpeakers announcement. I don't believe a true hd650 successor can come from Dan, though I would love to be proven wrong.

Still looking forward to trying the Elear.

I believe such is possible from Dan. Only that it will cost $2250.

Don't worry though. The universe has a way of correcting itself when things run too askew. The Elear for $1k is such an example. I'm sure Focal or other manufacturers have more in store.

If you ever run into him, you'll find he's a nice, decent guy, whether you like his products or not

Hm. Well, with the single exception of the Mad Dog Pro, I've largely disliked every headphone MrSpeakers has produced. But in my — very limited — interactions with Dan Clark, I've only found him to be a rather good-natured dude. Never detected much in the way of douchebaggery, and I like to think that I have a decent sense for that.

Take it for what it's worth, I guess. Doesn't seem to be any reason to hate on a guy for developing new products.

yea, you guys could be right but, when a guy sees a hype in modding stuff and realizes all the dumb specially challenged and easily influenced people in sight, someone decides to buy a cheap dollar store mic and pirate a measuring software and go from there and then sells the modded product for 5-7x the original......no actual music experience or good intentions. just taking advantage of others. there was and been tons of people before him who did heck better and never used measuring tools and helped people out free of charge. i can understand the thunderpants dude since he only charged based on the exotic wood used of the specific personal choice someone wanted and hand crafted himself....

I've never bought a Mr Speakers headphone. To me, Dan came across as an enthusiast/modder who did well. I like the Ether C, but still find it too expensive (like most of his products).

I actually thought the announcement was going to be a new Senn product. I kinda wish for a revamped hd700. I kinda felt like the 700 had decent bass, just needed fixing everywhere else. A hd700 should have been the super Hd650 long long before the Elear came out.

It looks like there was a mix up at the Source. My Focal will ship here probably over the weekend or arrive Monday. I will share impressions here. Buy honestly I don't think a whole lot extra is to be really said about them. I know it hasn't been in ideal listening conditions but there are a lot of good impressions in the thread. I feel like I very much know what to expect when they arrive.

The only thing I disliked about the 700s was the slightly metallic/unnatural treble.
As far as the Elear go, after comparing half a dozen other headphones, including the 650, they just sounded more real and natural. I could ask for maybe a bit more bite on the snares, but that's nitpicking. The Source will be selling a shipment of Elear and Utopias at the SF head-fi meet this weekend.

HD 650 successor? Felt sticky pads may be necessary to damp the treble? Hell no.

I'm sure someone feels that way, but I really can't see many listeners feeling that way. I found the treble extremely well behaved on the Elears.

Its a good sign when several high end headphones are trying to mimic or top the HD6x0. They might miss the mark, but they are at least aiming in the right direction.

Competition is good, even if you love your senn's.

I guess that's also the reason it's frustrating for people since it's been over a decade since we got the HD 6X0 and yet nothing really has hit the spot like those headphones have. Instead of a new and improved version, we ended up with the HD700 and a whole new different direction with the 800.

Even with the headphones that we are comparing to the 6x0 lineup, they are at the minimum double or triple the price.
