I went with my daughter (huge Disney fan). Enjoyable movie, but just 'okay' for me. Mostly disappointed with Jafar, surprisingly enjoyed the hell out of will Smith.
Will Smith was amazing when he was being his own take of the character, less so when he tried acting like "classic" Genie. Also singing voice is no match for Robin Williams :))
The CGI work was insane. I'm afraid to know their budget. Surprisingly not overdone despite so much going on. Also, some elements of the film I'll not specify in public felt heavy handed. Well it's ostensibly a kids' film.
Aladdin was excellent at dancing, but his facial expressions throughout the film (particularly at start) felt awkward. Jasmine was perfect, character of Dahlia was adorable and hilarious.
My daughter's biggest disappointment was Jafar not turning into a snake. And I don't think Robin could sing that well either, Will actually has some experience there, though Robin was theatrically trained.
Might have misstated. What I meant was actual "singing" aside I loved Robin's (Mr. William's?) verve and pizzazz. Will Smith doesn't really have the same swagger, though I love his Genie interpretation for its own merits.
I actually forgot about Jafar turning into a snake! Haven't watched the original in maybe 5 years? I could stand to fix that.
I need an Atlantis remake! Loved that film growing up, have watched it way too many times, haha.
I'd be interested in seeing adaptations of their less-popular animated films such as The Black Cauldron or Sword in the Stone, but that'll never happen :))
Neo-classics being their more popular Disney Princess films? Yup, makes sense from a business perspective to focus on them, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy all the ones that've been released so far (even if I'll likely not rewatch them). It just bites that Disney is so dragon's hoard about their properties, I'm sure there'd be interest in reworking some of the actual classics
After consulting with an expert (my daughter) I am off since they've already done Maleficent, Cinderella, Jungle Book, Dumbo, Pete's Dragon & Sleeping Beauty is in the works (I was referring more to the 90's stuff) . They have plans for Mulan as well as much more...this is (not surprisingly) well thought out already. Much more to come.
... I forgot about Dumbo. Haven't seen the it yet but the fact that it's completely slipped my mind just goes to show we're perhaps oversaturated, haha. Forgot The Lion King was up soon too.
I just read the article. Yeah, wow, that's a lot. Prince Charming('s brother) will have a film?!?! Maleficent is getting a sequel?!
