Haven't heard #1 but I have the Tungsram tubes. Takes a damn long time to burn in but boy is it glorious when it's there. Not quite the midbass slam of the stock tube.. but more textured and a noticeable step up everywhere else. Def. my fav tube in the SW51+ (so far) and my daily driver.

@FlySweep Your post is why they're on my radar, Thanks! They're just expensive, as is shipping right now, and the stock tubes sound really nice. On the other hand, I don't need 50 stocked tubes...

Don't spend $70 in tubes on this amp, the stock ones are great and great Amperex/Mullard can be had for substantially less.

@famish99 I'm happy with stock tubes but I do need backups. I don't need 25 pairs of backup however. So if the Tungsram were a lot better, I'd rather have 2 pairs then 25 for the same price.

Oh didn't notice 2 pairs, ie 4 tubes, that's not so bad then. They last longer than you think though, I'd only buy an extra pair at the most.

yeah but shipping is 24 bucks for 1 or 2 pairs so I figured just grab 2...

I have amperex and mullard tubes, as well. I'd take the amp over the mullards, but the rest of the chain matters (Pi2AES > Modi 3 > SW51+ > HD6XX (stock) / Elex). The (Blackburn) Mullards I have are bright-ish (seems there's some variance with this tube as there may be diff versions). Tungsram reminds me of the stock tube, but better.

yep.. looks identical to mine. Let 'em marinate for a while when you get 'em. I love the build quality in tungsram tubes too.. rugged af.
