Isn't focals thing the berylium and not organic stuff though? Seems like they would never do something like that
They use custom flax drivers in the Kanta and Aria lines, and in various car lines. Beryllium is used in the Sopra and Utopia lines for home and car. So a headphone with a flax driver instead of Be or Al?
Oh yeah, forgot about the flax. I have heard some people say the flax car stuff was better than the utopia stuff
People always mention the "sound stage" of the Utopia - it has always reminded me of being a kid and taking my bookshelf speakers and laying directly between them and messing with the toe angles.
I recently found this white paper when researching the flax drivers vs. Focal's "W-cone" (glass/foam sandwich). Lots of good technical information and graphs in the latter half: https://www.focal.com/sites/www.focal.fr/files/shared/catalog/document/focal-flax_sandwich-whitepaper.pdf.
Also: https://www.focal-america.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/CP_flax_gb.pdf ("The 'W' sandwich cone remains the best solution for audiophile speaker drivers.") All this is re: woofer cone materials, not tweeters. Focal uses Be or Al/Mg composite for tweeters, same as its headphone drivers.
