In my search for options on my Studio B I kept reading that JJs were a bit more warm/full bodied than the EH and Genelax. Can't confirm this myself. The JJs sound great though.
The JJ's IMO were a small step above the EH. The design of the amp means there won't be a huge difference among 300B tubes. Also, no need to buy $$$$ 300B tubes.
To be clear, the JJs would be the ones I would have gotten myself - this after hearing quite a few 300Bs on the Studio B. I cannot attest to most of the $$$$$ 300Bs like the KR or EML Mesh tho. They could be better (I know they won't be as warm).
EH gold grid 300Bs are bang for buck. Takatsuki/Elrog/SERP for top shelf. Switching transformers can be a mistake of monumental proportions. Never mess with the fixed components in a tube amp.
Helped me get a sense of what's out there that's not stupidly expensive. I'd love to hear Takatsuki/Elrog/SERP, but can't bring myself to spend $$$ on tubes.
Those Linlai and Psvane AMCE tubes are on my radar. Kind of ashamed to say I'm still waiting on my Elekit 300b amp to come home from the shop, otherwise I'd prolly be farting around with Chinese tubes of questionable repute.
I really enjoyed the ACME 300B with the Utopia. Great tube with a blacker background compared to other 300Bs I heard. Too sweet for a Verite Open but perfect for the Utopia.
