We have the Onkyo LB401 (which is old now), it has S/PDIF optical & coax, USB, and a 3.5mm analog inputs on the back. Hmm, but no HDMI (it stays on all the time, though in low-power mode). And it sounds decent for a soundbar.
Prolly Onkyo will have a newer one with HDMI also?
I hooked up the cheapo Behringer monitor bookshelves as a bandaid fix (not enough room for them and the TV so everything's kinda skewed) but that seems like a grand permanent one. Thanks for the tip, will look into em! Samsung has a few bars that look interesting but no RCA lmao.
Unfortunately I went with the "no extra money spent" route. Had some Behringer bookshelves lying around, used those for audio out instead; problem sorted.
Before then I was leaning in the direction of Samsung HW-Q80R since I saw local ones on the cheap. Saving the dosh for PC upgrades and then finally DIY bookshelves.
They're not hard on the eyes either, I'd say. Looking forward to quick impressions if you ever get em, but yeah unless you need the massive bandwidth of eARC might be best to forego soundbars entirely, no?
Main reason I was looking into them was because it was for the parents mainly and they're not amendable to BIG speakers, hah.
Speakers look pretty horrible IMO in general. We want to keep our living space de-electronicsed if we can. If I want the full theater I can go down to the basement and fire up the projector and 7.4.2 system. A soundbar is pretty unobtrusive comparatively.
