Original QB9 from original owner. Trying to reserve judgement as it is still warming up.

We have an Ayre Codex, but the USB input went haywire.

Got the QB9 for a fair price thinking it will get us through the holidays, or possibly a little longer as we get the Codex repaired

Keeping my eye out for an Exasound E32/E62 or maybe a Yggdrasil LIM on the secondary market. If neither materialize then I may send the QB9 away for the 'twenty' upgrade. I hear that is a pretty nice DAC

I had the Codex, very good DAC but I hated the USB Audio and Toslink inputs after a while.

Indeed. Sonically I am really impressed with that little box. I would be happy to live with it, but after making some cabling upgrades, I can't help but feel we are leaving some performance on the table.

We like the Codex a lot though, and with synergy in mind, moving up the Ayre chain to a QB-9 'twenty' seems to be the obvious choice. But USB in only... Might be a deal breaker!

Ayre isn’t going to change with their focus on USB. Their pricing also sucks.
