    Damn! I thought that classical music was safe from the loudness compression crap. I guess it's a long time since I bought any new stuff.

    I don't think it is compression: it is badly gained mics. For example: Gulda playing Beethoven 1967. Qobuz, Amadeo label, moonlight, the forte chords are just distorted. Or would it be my set?

    The mics feel like they are gained for the average spl of the piano, not the resonance of a large chord, forte, with a lot of pedal

    Yeah but would that not mean that the preamp gain was to hot? I.e. for the SPL of the instrument / room combo at a specific point in time? Or is mic clipping something else?
