they've been sitting on my floor for 2 months, sorry Scott! They didn't make any sort of tonal differences vs my BJC RCAs, but what they did was wipe away a layer of confusedness I hadn't known was left. I don't quite want to call it improved separation, but that's sorta what it is.
The designer does say that the new geometry he employs mainly fixes phase response across the audio frequency band, evening it out as much as is possible, which will effect timing. maybe this has a bigger effect using something like the Dave where timing is already such a central pillar of its performance
to be specific this was using the tough pitch copper(TPC) 1x4 gen2 RCA cables from Iconoclast, they also offer OFE, Oxygen-Free Electrolytic Copper, and upocc copper options, but the TPC is ~520 for a 4ft pair.
I always speculated that there would be a minimal to some difference due to the different physical properties and Z (impedance) measurements of different cables... but somehow this is another case of the "reality" we hear not necessarily matching the theoretical stuff above.
For the latter, I remain utterly sceptic, and would gladly take on your card. Also, I think that any real advance would come from somewhere like a Belden laboratory, where they totally know the structure, physics, capability, heck, even maybe spirituality, of wire. Not from some boutique person or company
Supposedly raising them off the floor does stuff too, won't cost you much(glass jars, lego) and at most makes you look stupid(or a genius). If i didn't have active speakers i'd try that one tbh.
@Thad E Ginathom iconoclast cables are from Belden, designed by a cable engineer that had been there for many years who also happened to be into audio, and wanted to know, if you could use spare no expense construction, would it actually make an audible difference.
I honestly would never have even bothered with cables, cause like you @Thad E Ginathom i would never have bought any from any of the random boutique cable makers. But I stared reading what the iconoclast guy was saying with all the reports and documentation and figured if I was gonna try an expensive cable someday, it’d be them lol
