1) Doubtlessly, OG Utopia looks cooler to me
2) Clear Mg's most criticized parts were indeed due to pads. With OG pads, OG and Mg tonally differed only in 8k peak (tamed in Mg) and better bass in Mg.
I'm suspecting the new and old Us only differ in 8k peak at the driver level.
3) Hard to expect technicality improvements

Utopia Og (pre-2020 one particularly) is the most depreciated products (usd 4000 new to <2000 used) in the decade window I've seen, which makes things even trickier.

Finally, I hate Focal kept using Lemo connectors.

Pre 2020 depreciated due to cases of driver failure and it is fair for such product to loose value when the company charges a ton to repair it if out of warranty.

Am I naive to hope the new Utopia's 5k peak keeps enough people away so that we can see some end in sight to the mega-buck headphone niche that the 1st Utopia in many ways popularized?

And at this price point, no way am I buying the "my employees' kids gotta eat" or "bcuz r&d" rationale that smaller outfits might use to charge north of 1K for headphones.
