the 4090 makes so much more sense at 1600, but unfortunately the ones in stock are all like 2100, and 4080s are going for like 1400...I thought we were past this
Actually need for the 6 years to come so that I can game at 60fps because PC games somehow get more demanding every year without equal increase in fidelity. 30% more demanding for 10% increased fidelity. PC games optimization get worse every year...
CP2077 and Elden Ring have no right to run this bad on my 1080ti while Battlefield V look miles better than ER and almost as good as CD2077 while rocking a +60fps. Those the most popular examples and there are plenty more others.
The optimization gap between consoles and PC is getting bigger every generation and it's sickening.
would it make sense to just get something good now and then in 2-3 years upgrade for the next 5+ years? Prices now are insane, and perhaps the competition brings a unification of architecture/standards/whatever? you never know with the way things are going what the future holds..
Fixed platforms always get juiced harder as time goes on. Variable open ones won't by nature.
If you're looking for longevity check out the UE5 tech demos to gauge next-gen game requirements. Reqs are set to sky rocket, and CPU will be the bottleneck for even 60 FPS. A 4080 may struggle to get a steady 4k60 in a 1st wave game that runs 1440p@30 on PS5/XSX, and will decrease in 2nd, 3rd, wave etc.
