As mentioned in the Job IRL thread my time in corporate is up. My position was eliminated in a corporate wide reorganization. After 38+ yrs with this company, 50+ yrs in medical device R&D and 56+ yrs of continuous employment the chapter on my corporate life is closing. As part of my separation I will be provided one year of additional salary which will see me to the time I would likely have retired fully.
Last week my dear spouse required a somewhat complicated ankle and leg surgery. We are in recovery day six now. I am her primary care provider. We are settling into a routine but the multiple times in the night required to make bathroom trips, record vitals and administer meds is a bit brutal. She is improving steadily. This will continue for the next six to eight weeks.
During my last weeks with the company I am striving to complete the audio challenges and consulting to our Belfast team. A lot to be accomplished in so very little time.
Also facing the additional household tasks that were split between wife & I. Two cats add to the chaos, though they snuggle and purr at just the right moments.
Finally, day before her surgery, I had a crown replaced. Day of surgery the city began repair of sidewalks 50 ft from our house. Constant noise through the day making napping to compensate for nighttime medical needs difficult. Then with better weather goes all the tree maintenance which means chain saws. All weekend.
While it seems like at lot, the circumstances are merely time consuming. At least we are healthy, have a warm place to call home, food to eat, a lot of good family and friends, including all of you online friends, and considerable new content upon which to catch up when time permits. I worry about folks like @Zampotech and those in the Ukraine.
@atomicbob you are the cream of the crop when it comes to being a great human on this earth! when I grow up I want to be you. stay well you enlightened being.
I'm sure you are going to prefer retired life, and it sounds like a good deal. My working life finished with almost a year of "gardening leave." I had to be around, available, but the work was negligible, and all from home. Best days of my work life, lol.
Mind you, you're a real pro --- and I was just pretending (so I could eat etc).
You have many activites demanding your attention, most of all on the home front. I trust you'll handle them with your usual grace and kindness, as evidenced by your many contributions here. Please remember to take time to take care of yourself as well. A caregiver must have reserves to graciously give so much of themselves to support others. Best
Holy cow, Bob!! When it rains it pours...can't wait for things to settle down for you and to see you here more again. All the best wishes for a speedy recovery and for luck finishing your projects!
