    I can't speak universally, but when I had the Sony ZX2, I removed or disabled nearly every superfluous app. It was very customizable.

    My Shanling has (had) very little extraneous software. A couple bespoke app stores which were easy to remove. Certainly not bloated, but can't speak to other manufacturers.

    @Kernel Kurtz is Google Chrome on it or a web-browser? I ask because I like not being distracted on my DAP, otherwise I can't resist the open web.

    I don't recall if it had a browser. It doesn't now, and I rarely connect it to the internet, I just play stuff off SD card. For people who stream the fact it is an old unpatched version of Android is the biggest issue. DAPs always seem to be behind on that, they are certainly not like phones.
