What surprises me is I have a Braun Series 7 shaver from 2007 that I still use everyday and 16 years later the original Lithium battery still holds a charge for over a week.
Wet Shaving Isn't Fancy Shaving, it saves you $$$$$ and get you the hell mostly away from the cart blades. Cart blades are only good for stuff that isn't on your face....if you get the hint.
I had a merkur I got for like 17 dollars, used it for like 5 years, the handle screw into the head corroded out. after that I got a Feather stainless steel DE razor and have been using that one ever since. I don't do anything fancy though, just the feather razor, feather blades, and proraso green cream. ez
I wet shaved every single morning from when I was 20 on. I became lazy in my mid-30s. I have a great Philips beard trimmer that, without the guard, cuts to 0.4mm. I do wet shave above my cheekbones because it looks better and shows that I put some effort into looking respectable. I also shave the areas on the sides of my eye sockets to exfoliate them.
OK OK, guys, put all those shavers away and get a brazing torch. Handy for metalwork too :).
Seriously, though... I have never blade/wet shaved, only ever electric. My Philishave was so old I don't remember when I bought it. 20 year, maybe even 30! But it recently ate its way through its final set of heads, now unobtainable.
If one has always used electric, the skin is soft and using a blade is uncomfortable. Part of that is probably simply not having the knack/practice but, when selecting my current shaver recently, I read that blades remove a few cells from the surface, which electric doesn't do.
I seldom use an electric. But I find it handy for traveling. I have a Braun 9 series (not a 9 Pro, because they're slightly more aggressive). Has anyone here tried a Panasonic Arc?
I try to look like a regular white guy. Outside of the America's three biggest cities and Miami, nobody knows how Jews look. Some Americans still think that Jews have horns—I'm not kidding. My wife calls my looks "ethnically ambiguous." Viz. Italian, Greek, Hispanic. But I'm not on the level of John Turturro.
@Claritas I don't think you're wrong. I'm almost entirely irish/catholic heritage but when I lived in Brookyln I assume it was my beard and big nose that had the Hasids/cab drivers/deli guys regularly asking me if I was a member of the tribe.
@bobboxbody Was it funny, irritating, both, or something else? I lived in 55% white / 45% Mexican suburb for 2.5 years. And it drove me crazy that the local *bank* branch *started* the conversation in Spanish. I kept thinking, "This is America. What the f**k is wrong with you people?!" I knew a young Mexican there who would speak only English in businesses. Bet he's doing very well for himself.
@Claritas I didn't think much of it either way except that made me realize lots of people think I'm a Jew because my face fits into a stereotypical category. Typically Jews are the only ones who comment on it, aside from a super racist landlord who wanted to make sure I wasn't Greek and was happy when he thought I was Jewish because I would have lots of money to pay my rent.
