There's only one guy whose taste I trust who still uses a Violectric amp. He uses: RME ADI-2 DAC, Violectric V280, HD800S. Anything HD800 is a give away that it's not my taste. But maybe it both *works on its own terms,* and is also to *his* taste (what digital users mean by "analog.") Two other guys I trust use RME ADI-2 PRO as an AIO. I don't know if there's more than one version of the AIO.
I've actually never heard a Violectric amp, but I knew the V281 had some kind of mythical status over on Head-Fi. I guess it's not as respected over here.
Here in the Philippines, the Violectric stuff is pretty highly regarded, but part of it is because the biggest dealer here shills them pretty hard. They don't sound bad, but the price-performance ratio is, as @Riotvan said, not that good. The V281 is on the warmer side of neutral so that's where it gets the HD800 pairing suggestion from.
I own the V281 and like it very much with the A2 Yggdrasil & my old Verite open. It wasn’t too warm and it opened up the headstage nicely while providing good resolution, decent (but not outstanding) dynamics, and making for a lighter, more nimble sound than my tube amps. I prefer it to the Phonitor X, it has more character and engagement, but it’s by no means good with all headphones.
Perhaps my view was jaded too much by my experience of the warmpoo V200. I’ve come to the source, headphones/speakers first camp. My amps need to be neutral, no color of their own so not sterile either. Phonitor is perfect for my tastes with Clear and HD6xx series, also using Yggdrasil OG.
