Agreed, love NY and SF both. My general experience with smells is that NY smells like garbage/sewage whereas SF smells like urine/ feces.

LOL, it's true. Homeless piss and shit in the streets on the West Coast. East Coast and Canada generally tend to be more humane to homeless, or give them tickets to California.

Yeah ship them to where it's warm, oh and also easier access to drugs from like Asia and Mexico.

Giulani used Death Squads to clean up NY, with the tacit approval of its residents. It worked. I've visited every 7 years or so for past 20 some years. Have seen the gradual changes.

Honestly, I don't really notice the smell of the streets unless it's really bad. There are definitely homeless people though, esp during the night and inside subway stations

yeah hot summer subway stations smell like hot garbage for sure

Welcome to NY. Don't think most streets smell like sewage, but there are some where garbage is dumped waiting for sanitation pickup that definitely do.

New Orleans bourbon street makes New York streets smell like bed, bath, & beyond

would much rather visit Nawlins than NYC (sewer) or any other city on the right coast.

I could overturn a portapotty outside your house to recreate the smell if you'd like

Portland downtown is pretty nice. They even have a Metro that works.
