HD650 isn't slow, it's lazy. With a powerful enough amp to really grip the drivers, it wakes up. Maybe you're spoiled, due to not driving your 650s out of some underpowered POS :)
(..and yeah, BA is as hit or miss as anything else. I have some Shure 535 which are as slow as hell, attacks on stuff tend to be quite soft/missing.)
If it renders realistic sound well it can't be slow. ADSR and realistic timbre of instruments, good transient response, dynamics etc. Ime HD650 is only second to one HP this far (yet to hear Stax phones). HD650 is a 'beast' with high-end tube amplifiers. It just scales.
@La Cenric@thegunner100 Alclair RSM. The tuning is a bit bassy (doesn't bleed into mids but few dB higher than the rest) & a touch of DD-like (more into that below).
@Kattefjaes@dark_energy@Azteca right, lazy is the proper word. The custom is like a crossbreed between DD & BA. BA timbre, BA dynamics, DD details, DD decay. Especially the decay: HD800 > Ety ER4SR > Andros > HD650 > Airpods > RSM > Earpods. Not typo, I feel Apple Airpods have faster decay than RSM by a hair. Haven't heard Shure (I'm a sad bloke, I know..).
I have only owned one pair of Etys the ER6i. My sound preference now is a more believable presentation. If something has speed, but can't do acoustic drums well, then i don't care about these HPs.
Both HD650 are HD800 are masters in this imo ( yeah, HD800 is more refined, soundstage, better dynamics etc etc.) Similar to good speakers, in their timbre and proper tone.
Enjoying the hell out of the Martians, though- 2xDD and 2xBA per ear.. really nice sound.. fast and surprisingly detailed. Rather than a boomy and flabby low end, it's extended and tight AF. Wish I had discovered them earlier.
