Wish there was an amp under $1,200 which retains Jot macro dynamics/slam, transient speed with deep stage and organic timbre. Really, Jot's Achilles heels are only depth & treble.
@ultrabike yeah. Listening to either jazz/classical (which depth is important) and modern pop (which treble is painstakingly horrible) lately. Thinking about Vali 2 or Mojo 2.
You should be able to sell it pretty quickly. Between Schiit's backorder delays and the Jot's good reputation, it's become a rarity on the used market.
I like it, there is a lot to like in this little beast. It does something so well.. and it comes down to, whether this hits your 'sweet spot.' I can handle the smaller soundstage. But it actually isn't flat from either its internal, r2r DAC. For its value, this is superb. Want something way better? Get a f'ing EC 2a3 amp or a Cavalli hybrid $3-4k.
Just to clarify - I'm not slamming the Jot. It's just that I've heard more people expressing dissatisfaction with some aspect of it lately. I don't have one but my guess has been something like what @dark_energy said - amazing value for the money but ultimately to get the sound of a multi-thousand dollar amp you still have to spend multi-thousand dollars.
I would 'slamm' something with good reason. IME, nothing comes close to one particulat EC amp i have auditioned (i have not heard the Studio). It litterally shames 10k amplifiers.. so what? I am not going to take anything away from Jot, because this is like comparing a Honda Civic to Maclaren supercar.
Ofc.. jot has small soundstage. But it has very nice midrange, intense bass impact and dynamics. Great 'black ground.' It also has resonably good amound of detail.. for $400. One Cinemag output transformer costs around that or more? Not sure
