The Whitepaper is kinda useless, I'll have to try to track down an actual research paper to figure out what exactly is going on with that thing. Honestly, anything that reduces the 12A_7 tubes in musical chains is a good thing.
I don't think it's snake oil. Tubes have a lot of downsides in terms of energy requirements and compactness. The article says this is for guitar pedals which really have limits in terms of using tubes. I consider this similar to the Nutube.

Hm, it does have some interesting electrical properties. The main difference from a NuTube is that this actually doesn't require a vacuum. Hell, they mount these things on sim cards for their testing!
Could have interesting uses in solid state amps in the future. Providing a few circuits with different tunings the same way some DAC manufactures provide different filters would be cool.
