There hasn’t been anything of value in this thread for a while. Time to move on. Of course other mods/admins may disagree and reopen. Perhaps I need to ignore this thread because it mostly makes me sick.

I used to read a lot of objective reviews and measurement of DACs/AMPs/speakers on ASR, funny enough, ended up pretty much all of my gears were either not being reviewed there or were concluded with a "headless pink panther".

Specifically my Marantz HD-AMP1 in my bedroom system was concluded with a headless pink panther with poor measurements, my Paradigm premier speakers were criticized in more than a couple threads there being "crap".

This set sound wonderful to my ears I simply leave them on for bed time music everyday!!!!

My Anthem MRX1120 11.1 was concluded with a "clueless pink panther" that kinda suggested for the money you can do better

Its been such a solid performer since I bought it in 2017, paired it up with Jriver, all my movies sound truly immersive!!!

ASR has been a great resource for me. So long as one keeps in mind that the site creator has some blind spots as to what he does and doesn't know, it's a terrific source of information, just as this site is. The whole SINAD thing is overblown there, IMO, just as it is here in the opposite way.

I really don't understand the antipathy here or the antipathy there. No one has all the answers, and no one is losing his life, his job or his dog over any of this stuff. We're supposed to be having fun.

Guess I am one of the weird ones. I do enjoy reading some of the reviews and measurements but at the end I just don’t take their advice for my purchases!!!

I also don’t believe things measured well necessarily will sound good or vice versa. I won’t touch any chi-fi regardless of whatever price points.

the consensus there on any digital interface or pi2aes is that it makes absolutely no difference compare to a stock rpi 4 with USB, which I totally disagree and are happily rocking with my pi2aes through coax!!!

none the less, I still enjoy reading comments and reviews there. I guess I am just curious to learn about what extreme objectivists mindsets are like

Not objective. The choice of what to measure and how is always going to be subjective. The specific choices made on ASR are batshit crazy. The reviews aren't much better.

ASR is a great resource because it helps me determine (1) what I should not buy (anything that is “recommended”) and (2) what I would probably enjoy trying out (anything that is not “recommended”, either because Amir intentionally borked the measurements or otherwise).

However, out of principle due to the way they treat dissenting opinions and anyone questioning Amir’s authoritah, and because Amir’s consistent begging for money at the end of each review is rather unbecoming, I have chosen to abstain.

Can you explain how the SINAD thing is "overblown here in the opposite way" when an audio spectrum FFT of a 1kHz sine (0dbFS or 0dBu or previously 0.550Vrms), the basis of which SINAD is derived, has been the starting point for every DAC and amp audio measurement made here?

Let me assist you by reminding you:

My dog told me he would leave me if I bought a THX amp, or something with "extraordinary SINAD performance." My dog is my life, therefore I buy tube amps with 10% THD just to be safe.

Both ASR and SBAF now contain tons of posts and tons of active users. Statistically speaking, there's always chance we can see some good article.. But we don't want to check out all the numerous posts in both sites. So for convenience, let's only consider "promoted" articles. I checked out all the articles currently promoted on ASR and SBAF. They're simply not contestable at all.

Every post was garbage. Nothing is what I'd consider informative.

    Really, never contestable.....

As Amir wrote, "SINAD or THD+N is not perceptually correlated measure. So it is hard to make an argument for audibility of any value regardless of conditions selected...The reason to measure SINAD is to detect engineering excellence as a general measure. "
    https://www.audiosciencereview.com/...s/what-matters-about-sinad-measurements.7375/

Like saying, "check out this measurement for vacuum cleaners. It's a measurement of engineering excellence that does not correlate with any ability to make your carpet cleaner."
That is absurd. Yet somehow, in the audio world, ASR has suction...

I pretty much expected this response to my post. Tribal bonds seem to be very important to most people. To sociopaths like me, not so much, which is why being an iconoclast is so comfortable for me.

EDIT: Both sites are remarkably hostile toward those who express any skepticism with the Site Canon. I'm afraid I won't be welcome here any longer, so from here on, I will only audit the site without comment. I seriously wish everyone here the best.
