That's Lachlan's video review up there for the obligatory picture of the headphone. Too much for me to do, and as with every night, I need to sneak in a few records before I go to sleep, so I'm not taking photos and posting them.

Some quick subjective impressions (before measurements)
    1. Wow, NO annoying treble. Seems fairly smooth. Very different from T1 or even DT880 - not as bright. Might be a small peak in the lower/mid treble, but not that noticeable and well balanced by the strong bass. The mids are good and are not recessed. Why couldn't Beyer do this FR for the T1?
    2. Little bit of cup coloration. Tap on the outside plate of the cups, and we hear this same sort of coloration - resonance play. Sort of nasal. I doubt the inside of the cups have any damping material. It could probably use some. A layer of dynamic on the inside back of the cups might help too.
    3. Adjustable bass - four positions. I prefer the second. The frequency response measurements will reflect this position which I believe to be the best. The bass is strong, but there is a slight suckout in the upper bass.
    4. Unfortunately, overall fidelity seems low, especially when there is bass. It just doesn't sound very high-fi. Bet you guys highish distortion numbers.
    5. Oh crap, some crackling and dropouts on left channel. Driver might be dying... I've had this happen to three pairs of Beyers (DT770, DT880, and T1 Gen 2). Hopefully these dropouts are computer glitches and will go away.

Doesn't sound as bad as it looks. I think there is massive smearing and warmth from the the bass that helps balanced out the slight peaks. In any event, the ridges / ringing are not long in duration and well less than 1ms. Probably why I am not bothered by them. Note remarkable consistency between channels.

No comment on measured distortion. You guys figure it out. I now absolve myself from all further responsibility.

One setting usable (2nd notch from top), all others questionable.

Looks quite good, especially for a closed back headphone. Obligatory TP mod please!

I didn't think TP was necessary to correct the treble. Overall tonal balance is good. Wish the distortion was lower though.

It's quite good with girl + guitar type music though. But this kind of music doesn't challenge the bass.

Another surprising headphone from Beyer, only speaking from graphs, is the T5p. All other Beyers scare the crap out of me!

Could you try to get your hands on the Beyerdynamic Custom Studio? It uses the same driver of the DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm but sounds a lot better and has adjustable bass as well. Pretty airy for a closed headphone. Treble is elevated, but not zingy. I didn't hear any resonance/cupped hand coloration either.
You can replace the black velour on them with the Custom One Pro leather pads. The lower mids gain some body while treble is slightly subdued.

The COP suffers from those wonky drivers. Push them hard and they sound like they're breaking up. I've dropped 770 drivers into there and it was better. The cups don't glare quite as much as the DT##0 family, but still have a bit of that Beyer honk plus more of a hollow character. Shove anything into the cups to dissipate some of that excessive energy up top and help with isolation (which isn't great to begin with; as that hollowness amplifies certain sounds).

Mine didn't last long before I went and did this to them: http://www.head-fi.org/t/656644/ort...rp-drivers-into-a-beyerdynamic-custom-one-pro

I had one of these for a bit - I thought it sounded reasonably balanced for a Beyer. I think 'Low fidelity' is bang on though - I found it blurry and distorted.

I have the Custom Studio, and I did a direct comparison to the DT770 80 Ohm in the unsanctioned section :)
