Bought a Gungnir Multibit... So far not impressed. Why?

@GUTB Did you have a chance to read that article from Dr Waldrep and John Siau?

His head is too far up his own ass for it to absorb any genuine information.

One can try...I used to be on the DSD bandwagon in the early 2000's during the advent of SACD. But there is such a dearth of material, what's the point anymore?

I found the dynamic peaks painful. Literally.

Thank you. Im4der, you made me laugh, and I seriously needed to laugh. My failing hearing has reached the point where hifi can no longer be actually relevant to me any longer. I can hardly hear the kitchen timer, and that is only at 4K. Yesterday's visit to the ENT guy for dewaxing didn't fix that, and the hearing test confirmed it. This pissses me off a great deal.

So there is going to be a bit of sour grapes in my posting about sound these days. my next audio purchase, within the next few weeks, has to be hearing aids.

But last year, when I tried the Gungnir Multibit, I still had reason to believe in my reasons for not liking it. Other peoples' personal preferences may, and obviously do, vary.

Thank you for this. I thought I was going crazy with the XLR-RCA cable I was using. When I bought the Jensen box, things became normal from the Gungnir Multibit albeit at a higher volume level on the amp. BTW, I assume the 4:1 is the Isomax?

Why are you guys using XLR->RCA converter boxes instead of the default RCA outputs again?

I'm sorry, but I'm currently interpreting this as "solving" a problem that doesn't practically exist.

Yo Thad, you heard the D/S Gungnir, not the Gungnir Multibit.....I just upgraded the DAc in January this year and you will hear it in April sometime ;)

I am truly sorry to learn about your hearing. I myself just went through a similar--though it seems less severe--issue not to long ago.

I do recall you not liking the DS Gungnir as well, for similar reasons. I actually can commiserate with your experience here, as the DS Gungnir could be fatiguing to me. To clarify, you also heard the Gungnir Multibit in the same way? I myself experienced a complete shift through the upgrade so that I suffer absolutely zero fatigue with the Multibit version. They seem like completely different DACs to me, with some exceptions.

More importantly, I hope that you can recover your hearing as much as possible soon.

Edit: Koth just answered me question regarding Gungnir versions.

Well, yes, it was Koth Ganesh's box that nearly got bought by me, rather than upgraded by him!

Damn all this abbreviation schiit! Yes, of course your are right (well, you would be: it was/is your box and you must be glad, now, that I didn't like it!) Look forward to hearing the MB.

So I suppose I'm probably talking nonsense again lol.

Artasia, thanks for the sympathy: it is appreciated --- but I'm afraid there isn't going to be a cure. However, it seems that hearing aids, as welll as helping me to hear what people are saying, and this helping me to spout less nonsense, help to arrest further degradation (a bit) because of the way that the brain manages the ears.

I agree, It didn't sound flat per se but other dacs in comparison made it look to me a little dynamically poor.

So Sorry to read that. My sincere sympathy.

Thank you. I'm glad to be able to say that I expect to be enjoying the content that I can hear in music for a while yet, especially live concerts, but for me to spout about hifi now would be nonsense, and it would be stupid to spend much more on it too. hey, that has its advantages. I'm glad I got the HD600s, but I doubt that I'll upgrade from the ODAC/GOv1 now.
