E-mu Teak on Massdrop

One fellow says it uses the TH-900 drivers, but I think it is more likely it uses TH-600 or updated D5000 drivers.

I ordered the Teak version myself (changed from ebony).

TH-900 drivers or not, I see it as a better value compares to the TH-X00 for $50 more:
- "Proper" ear pads with normal size openings
- Choices of wood cups
- Better 7N OFC cable according to Creative Labs (http://sg.creative.com/p/headphones-headsets/e-mu-teak)
- No wait for the next drop.

 

I have a feeling the 600s and 900s use the same driver just different magnets (could be wrong).

Looks like it still has the worst cable ever. Damn you kinky braids.

 

Apparently closer to the th900. Should rest between the thx00 and th900.

 

The teak is gorgeous. Are the pads real leather?

 

Probably protein leather.

I've heard these are tuned for less bass and more mids and highs.

 

All three cups are beautiful, but I'm leaning towards the ebony.

 

The spec is the same as that of D5000 so I suspect the driver will be similar to D5000 instead of TH900

 

Specs can be misleading and can be influenced by other factors in the headphone. The Foster drivers used in all th600 and th900 and their respective counterparts (thx00 and EMU-Teak) are the same outside of the strength of the driver magnet. Very similar to the old D5000 drivers though.

EDIT: The creator stopped by in the massdrop discussion to say that the Teak will sound different slightly from the Rosewood/Ebony due to the cup shape differences. Would be interesting to get some A/B comparisons after these start getting in people's hands.

 

Measured with digital calipers just now, it's the same earpad opening size as the TH-X00.
