    I did bad and I feel bad. I got a great deal locally on a Piety from @Polemarkos, it had a scratchy pot that wasn't too bad, but I couldn't resist tinkering and failed miserably. I found a carbon pot made by Bourns that's close to a drop in replacement, but the stock pot just really didn't want to come out. Somewhere along the way I knocked one of the SMD parts off: Q207 - I don't even know what it was, but the leads were snapped off at the body, so I threw it away. The new pot is installed but it's missing a diode or transistor or some other SMD witchcraft, otherwise it's fine, but I haven't been able to test the pot. The missing part's spot on the board is highlighted in the tiny pink rectangle on the pic. I don't have the original box, but do have the wall wort.

    I call it quits after anything tinier than point to point wiring, but I'm sure someone here would be willing to fix this for you. No need to give it away.

    Also, could you take a closer picture of the section of the board with the missing SMD? It would be good to see if the pads are still intact or ripped up from the board.

    That transistor will match the transistor in the same relative place for the other channel, above in the pic (3rd component down from top row, in the same vertical column).

    Wouldn't be too difficult to obtain one and install with a small heat gun.

    I think the whole point of Piety, was that it was made with out-of-production FETs (or BJTs?). Hence Schiit not making it part of their lineup, and Nitsch doing it as a limited run. Q207 is a semiconductor and might be one of the OOP parts. TLDR; finding a replacement might be troublesome, and this should really go straight to @CEE TEE.

    And yeah, replacing a board-mounted pot has to be the most frustrating of all DIY ventures. Hot air station and Chip Quik are pretty much mandatory. A squirt of FaderLube is the best solution. But a scratchy pot can also be inherent to a design, and is usually exacerbated by any DC on the input.

    The pot tricked me because it was through hole, so I thought it would be easy, but I was wrong.
    The pads are fine, I knew enough not to let the board heat up too much, the semiconductor just got ripped off by a fat finger or something, really no idea how.

    I’ll take it off your hands, and if I get it working again, I’ll send it back your way.

    Scratchy Alps pots just seem to be the deal. Even the Blues. I have a Black that is the only one that is smooth and silent. My T3 would benefit from swapping it in, but it will not fit in there. :(

    It is Q207. Should be the same as Q107.

    The marking on the transistor is "LY 134".

    @Ksorota is going to try to fix my destruction and then we'll sell it to benefit SBAF.
    @shotgunshane @jexby please close.
    Thanks everyone.
