I unexpectedly came across a b-stock Bifrost 2 so up on the chopping block is a Bifrost 1 MB with Unison USB. I got this literally at the beginning of the month from @rtaylor76. While this began life as a D/S Bifrost (and the previous boards are included in the box although you cannot swap them back in to change this back to a D/S DAC because it requires different firmware), it has had multiple upgrades including a recent upgrade to Multibit. Having previously owned an older Multibit Bifrost, I can confirm that this has the updated v2 sound that puts its performance at another level beyond the Modi Multibit, offering a taste of the textural and spatial details that await you on a Gungnir or Yggdrasil. The Unison input sounds fantastic, that’s how I’ve been using it and Unison elevates the DAC’s USB performance significantly compared to all previous USB implementations.

Despite it now being a discontinued product, I think the original Bifrost (provided it has the newer, upgraded sound) remains an excellent DAC and one that could be endgame for someone who doesn’t plan to climb Mt. Übergeär and wants something that sounds damn good without laying out a mortgage payment.

Since I got a great deal on this, and I’ve had it for so short a time, I’m going to pass the deal right along: $300 net to me and I’ll cover shipping. Normally I do a friends price and a higher contributor/rando price but since most of the Friends here have something comparable or better than this, I’m going to keep the price the same and make it an open offer to anyone who is interested, with some caveats:

    1. Friends still get priority and preference, then existing Contributors, then Randos.
    2. If you are a rando and have five or less posts to your name, don’t bother. My goal here is to increase community engagement, not offer an easy score.
    3. I can’t enforce this, but I would appreciate it if whoever buys this posts their thoughts and impressions in the Bifrost Multibit thread (not the Bifrost 2 thread).
    4. If you are a rando and I decide to sell to you, I will ask for a one time contribution to SBAF. This place is great because so many of us have skin in the game. I’m not putting an absolute dollar value on this contribution. Put what you think is fair.
    5. I can’t ship this until Tuesday 1/26. That’s simply the soonest I’ll be able to get it boxed up and taken to UPS or FedEx.

I’m only shipping within the US on this one.

    Thanks for looking!

I will agree it is a damn fine sounding DAC and the only reason I got rid of it is that I picked up a deal on a a Theta vintage DAC, because I thing for vintage gear. Plus, I have no office setup anymore, so it is better getting some use. The Unison card is also a $200 card by itself and adds a heck of a lot of value here.

Thank you @Merrick for this opportunity to try a great multibit DAC at a truly generous price. My only fear is that I’ll get a taste of something I like and will want to see how deep the rabbit hole goes. In the meantime, I’ll be sure to report back once I get a feel for it in my setup.
