Earlier this year I bought three headphones at roughly the same time: HD600, HD6XX and HE560 v4, all at a similar price point here in Australia. I prefer the HD600 and the other two pairs haven't seen much head time at all, so I'm selling them. Located in Australia so shipping elsewhere will be expensive, but may be feasible for those in NZ or SE Asia.

HD6XX - $250 AUD Friends / Contributors ($290 AUD for others) plus shipping
Cost me about $400 AUD directly from Drop, which included GST and shipping from the US. About 100 hours of use. All original packaging included. Excellent condition, but lint on velour pads.

HE560v4 - $250 AUD Friends / Contributors ($290 AUD for others) plus shipping
Cost me about $420 AUD including shipping as "open box" (ie unsold stock for discontinued headphone) directly from HiFiMan. About 100 hours of use. All original packaging included. Excellent condition.

DT700 Pro X - $200 AUD Friends / Contributors ($240 AUD for others) plus shipping
Also selling a pair of Beyer DT700 Pro X headphones that I paid about $290 AUD in September this year (yep, less than 6 weeks ago). These isolate well and barely leak sound at all, but I otherwise don't like them very much. Used for less than 10 hours. All original packaging and accessories included. Excellent condition.

Hint to potential buyers: If you're not already a Friend or Contributor, donate $20 USD to SBAF, get a "Contributor" badge and get the better price.

Images for DT700 Pro X available on request.

I realise there aren't many AU/NZ SBAFers. Will leave these up here for two more weeks then will list on Stereonet AU classifieds (no Friend discounts there).

Off topic but if you’ve listened to the dt-770 I would like to know how you think it compares to the dt-700X

I've not heard the dt770s, so unfortunately I can't help. If it's useful I'll spend some more time listening to the dt700s and write a few words in comparison to the HD600s, HD6XX and/or HE560s (whichever you're most familiar with). This any good to you?

    @GuySmiley'sMonkey

That’s also cool too. Although those are all open headphones so not quite the same.

The main reason why I ask is because the DT-770 isn’t really liked that much in this community and am curious what changes they made with the X version

Hope this helps you @Cspirou and others.

A few observations on the DT700 Pro-X (run from SPL Phonitor e)

The timbre is unbalanced: Bass is overemphasised (common for closed cans) and very uncontrolled with a poor amp (such as straight from your laptop), treble lacks sparkle while also sounding harsh, mids sound grainy, "shouty" sounding
Soundstage isn't wide or deep, but expectations on this front are always low for closed cans.
    Imaging - Meh
Dynamics - The bass can hit hard, but there's no subtlety
Transparency/Detail - Better than some closed cans I've heard
Isolates quite well and very little sound leakage, so at least "works" for listening to music in a shared bed. Very microphonic cable. It's replaceable, but I wouldn't spend extra money on this headphone.

In summary and in response to the music its fed, at its best it's inoffensive, at its worst it's harsh, and sometimes it's just boring. If you own and like the DT700 Pro X, I'm not trying to upset you or convince you to sell them. Your preferences could be very different to mine.

Running through a playlist of music I love that covers a wide range of styles from Renaissance to hard rock (RaTM) there were only two tracks that I listened to all the way through: Get Lucky (Daft Punk), which was kind of fun and "Northern Sky" (Nick Drake), which is a pretty laid back recording anyway. The other ten tracks were skipped as soon as I heard enough to tell me about the headphones - Not enjoyable at all.

Not a good advertisement for a pair of headphones I'm trying to sell! Someone might like the DT700s, but not me.

While this is neither a proper review nor the place for me to outline a philosophy of review methodology or interpretation, I believe that reviews convey information about both the equipment being reviewed and the person writing it. To understand a review you need to understand the reviewer.

In that spirit, my ideal headphone (based on those I've owned) would have a timbre very close to the HD600 (out of a suitable amp - found it insipid out of the Vali 2) and technicalities on par with the Focal Clear, but with a wider sound stage. I value a balanced and natural timbre (above all else), precise imaging, sparkly treble without being bright, fast and responsive transients, and dynamic nuance. I detest bloated, uncontrolled bass and vocal graininess.
