Package due tomorrow at friendly fed-ex store. I will collect at my leisure, with no fear of missing the fed-ex Ninja. :p

Looking forward to hearing if you like it or not, from what I understand it's going to be pretty different from the NAD. People are also taking about the Yggdrasil needing to be powered on all the time to sound it's best, like it has an extremely long warm-up time. Don't know if it's true or not but that's what I've read.

^^ Yes, I'm prepared to with hold judgment for a week before doing any critical listening and making opinions.

Just got the Yggdrasil plugged in and warming up. Got about 6.5 more days to go to reach thermal optimization. ;) Even so, this DAC is tremendously good and easily outclasses the m51 right out of the box. Let me get my mind around it all and I'll report back. Initial tone is the best I've ever heard, period...no contest. Where the hell did that bass slam come from in the music I've been listening to for years? Damn, it's hitting hard.

I never truly understood the micro-plankton until I plugged in this DAC. Detail is everywhere floating specs of dust you didn't know were there till they were hit by the sunlight. Just beautiful...

Okay, so you know that Yggdrasil right? I've been going back and forth between it and the m51 today. The NAD is a good dac for sure. It's smooth and accurate. I've enjoyed owning it, seriously.

Is the Yggdrasil worth 2x the price of the NAD. In a word, yes. What I've found with Yggdrasil is simply described as engagement. It present itself in different ways. Most often though, it produces toe tapping, head bobbing and air guitaring. The Yggdrasil sucks me into the music...and I'm experiencing it, feeling it, loving it. The distance between the reproduced music and the feeling of actually being there is somehow lessened and my enjoyment increases exponentially.

I'll switch over to the Yggdrasil to listen to just the track I'd just heard on the NAD. Before I realize it, I'm three deep into the album and have completely forgotten that I'm doing some critical listening. Just feeling the vibe that is coming from the tracks.

So yeah, I'm gonna say that this one is a keeper.

    @Ice-man

Cool, did you notice any change with warm-up or did it sound good from cold as well?

Well, it sounded pretty good out of the box. If that was the final signature I would have still been pretty happy. After 50 hours the Yggdrasil improved and began to really impress me. I'm around 100 hours now. And again, if this is where the improvement levels off I'd still be giddy over this DAC. If it improves more I'm not sure that I could get my brain around it.

Is this straight USB? Or even USB with, say, a Regen in the front?

You know what I'm gonna say, but a good USB->SPDIF converter or other source (i.e. good CD player or digital audio transport) will take it up a notch still.

At what point does the Yggdrasil show it's superior sound over the Gungnir Multibit(with regards to amplification)? Would a DNA Stratus be enough for the Yggdrasil??
I'm in the same spot as the OP. I have an LH Infinity on order but I've accepted it will never be deliver so I maybe need to find a new dac. Currently on GO1000. Headphones are HEK and HD650.

I'm using a Wyrd with mixed results which raises another question. I have someone who wants the Wyrd. My inclination is to sell it and get the Regen. Is this recommended with Yggdrasil? Or is it best to have nothing in the chain between Yggdrasil and the pc?

    Did I hear my name?

Hi, everyone! Please advise Ice-man that the Regen = audio bliss, and that it sounds even better on the heels of selling your Wyrd at a rock-bottom price.

Just skip the Regen and get something like a Mutec 1.2 and use AES. It is a step up over anything going into Yggdrasil's USB.

So what's the best price to pick up the Mutek?

Depends on where you live. :) Just search for "Mutec 1.2" and see if you can find an online or local store that sells them. If you really have cash to burn, you can try the Mutec 3+, but it's less of a value proposition.

Alternatively consider some dedicated digital audio transports or streamers that pipe out SPDIF (BNC) or AES. I personally quite enjoy my Soundaware D100 and prefer it to the USB->SPDIF converters thus far. Again, some of the really, really expensive CD players or select few "vintage" players (much cheaper on the used market) are also great.

^^ Thanks for the info. Checking into the Mutek, possibly used.
