Ive tried fuzzor with stock pads, lawton angled pads and audeze pads.
To me, fuzzor is must have with stock pads. With angled pads? No, the treble get alot less harsh, especially with Audeze pads.
Audeze pads are just win/win. Much comfier and reduce treble :D Not to mention that it does indeed seem to image better.

I guess it'd depend on what kind of resolution you're looking for with a hair splitting meter.

Edit: I found the impressions more or less on the mark, and while the gear used should definitely be disclosed, the impressions still match what I came up with on a more than adequate chain.

I also think describing anything as "way" this or that, vs "slightly" this or that is dependent on perspective and the degree of hair-splitting one is employing.

I would agree that the HE6 scales a lot higher than you would think it could, but I'm not so sure if you're going to recognize that fact if you haven't changed the supplied headphone cable to an aftermarket cable first.

i can't think of another headphone that I've owned , whose sound characteristics were as positively affected simply by changing to a DHC headphone cable. I'm currently using the HE6 w/ no grille , no damping & JMoney Earpads w/ speaker cloth material beneath the pads openings.. I'm pretty certain what I've done to these headphones wouldn't have been as nearly effective , if I hadn't "Swapped Out" the headphone cable to the DHC cable.

My hair splitting meter resolution is over 9000. Probably higher than most :pirate07:

Still, having owned all of these hp, I can vouch for the wall the he500 just runs into resolution-wise, when hd800 and he6 (though slightly less so) simply fly over it. Not that it impedes the ability to enjoy it, as I personally think that for many people, he500 with a decent dac/amp is an end-game rig. But we're not normal people are we ?

I've dialed mine back quite a bit, helps me live with the HD650 on modest gear after stepping down from HE-6 & HD800. When I had mine set at 9000, I found the HE-500's bass resolution to be lacking, bloomed and bleeding upward, masking things.

That's perfectly fine, we don't always need to have it that high. And while I agree with your description, the he500 is also missing on plankton by quite a wide margin (I know, vague vocabulary again). That's where hd800 and he6come and take the cake imo.

I forgot to mention the "fixed" HE6 (like the fixed HD800) really loves the Metrum Hex DAC.

Beside using the "Vegan" Earpads (which will be my next move), does anyone have any other
"Comfort tweaks" for the HE6 ?

(what's all this talk about using modest gear !!!, It's time to man up & go into debt like everyone else) (no one said anything about having any interests outside of Audio !)

    @frenchbat - I'd agree with that too.

Speaking of the X, we need one on tour soon.

There was no need to delete anything. We can handle a disagreement without using nuclear missiles.

Bend the headband to the shape of your head. There isn't a need for anymore.

Heh,he,he...... Actually, I'd done that quite some time ago !

If your head isn't in the medium to smaller size the headband is a bit shorter than it could be for it's radius bend to not "squeeze your coconut" like a "WWE" wrestler might do to his opponent . I definitely had to counteract the pressure by taking some of the radius out of the band. The side pressure is fine now ,but a touch too loose !

Thanks ,all the same for the suggestion (my head is probably getting "fatter" as we speak, so it may work itself out)

HE-6 is still the better headphone. Way more attack and open sounding. Caveat is of course having a clean, powerful amp while HEX sounds great [for what it is] out of a Carbon.

Is there a good comparison review of Hifiman's top models (HE-400 -versions, 500, 560 etc)?

When I get to read about one of them, I often get the idea that they are either very bright or colored in a funny way (1st 400?). I don't have a way to try all the models at the same time.. My recent favourites include LCD-2.1, HD650 & 600 and Denon D2000... What would some (up to 500 euro used) Hifimans do what these mentioned don't?

    Cheers folks!
