Asking for myself, can anyone recommend a cheap-ish streamer that just *works* with JRiver via wifi without having to do a bajillion setup things or buying id-pi? A couple years ago I had a Sonnet Hermes that was flashed with Volumio. I didn't do anything beyond that, it was simply autodetected in JRiver as an output zone and I could send music out that way.

Very very much a luddite when it comes to streaming. I'm looking for convenience over fidelity here.

This is probably more than you're looking to do, but I made a guide for how to use JRiver with the Mercury V3 streamer:

It's really not difficult and just requires a little patience, but it's not as straightforward as what you describe with Sonnet Hermes.

Mercury 3 would be nice but the same or similar process would work for Pi2AES, Digi+ Pro HAT, I have not tried but JRiver it is supposed to work just with RPi.

So, I've been dealing with audio and video problems for 2 weeks now, and it all started when I installed a new AMD GPU driver. What I've learned over these past 2 weeks is that not only can specific AMD GPU drivers alter/degrade audio quality when using Jriver, but the way you install them can cause the same thing as well.

I have found that in order to get around this issue, you must uninstall your GPU driver with DDU using safe mode in windows, then install the new driver with the limited install or driver only option selected and you must have the factory reset box selected, finally you need to uninstall Jriver completely. Meaning, you need to select uninstall all registry entries and library files. Reinstall Jriver and your audio should be normal again.

24.7.1 is the GPU driver I have found to be the most stable with Jriver and doesn't screw with your audio. Avoid 24.5.1 specifically.

Unfortunately, I don't have any Nvidia GPUs anymore, so I can't test if this issue is prevalent with Nvidia GPU drivers as well.

I would imagine doing the same clean install method with an Nvidia GPU would circumvent any issues related to the driver and install process.

I mentioned elsewhere that I used to have a Wiim Ultra, which unfortunately was not recognized by JRiver. I'm not sure if there were additional steps that I needed to take for it to be found on my network.

I suppose at the end of the day I could just use bluetooth...

So, just for clarification and to update anyone that is either in the same boat or is simply interested. After doing more testing and experimenting, the claim I made about specific GPU drivers causing issues and sound quality changes wasn't entirely correct.

It seems to be a more complex and multifaceted issue that depends on software compatibility with drivers and maybe even other variables that are out of the user's control.

Basically, it's not just which GPU driver you're using or how you install everything, but also which version of Jriver you install.

I recently installed a new AMD GPU driver 25.1.1 and with Jriver 33.30, the audio was completely broken (noticeably louder and compressed with no dynamics), but when I simply used windows audio it was fine. I then tried Jriver 33.13, and it also sounded *normal for that version.

Good news, you can use which ever GPU driver that you want. Bad news, you will need to try different versions of Jriver to find which versions work and sound the best with the GPU driver you're using.

*Each version of Jriver will sound different.
