dude what is your commission on F-1 sales?
the above statement is completely stoopid- no one should ever put Mutec 3+USB with a modi2 multi bit.
and if you haven't heard a Yggdrasil being fed by AES from a Mutec3+USB compared to a F-1 feeding an Yggdrasil, well- you are merely guessing.

Why would you f**k with the signal more and waste money feeding the Yggdrasil AES from a Mutec USB reclocker? Just buy an AES/EBU (has to be transformer coupled while AES3 doesn't) i/o PCI-E card and feed the Yggdrasil the signal directly. Don't have a Yggdrasil or DAC with AES input? Get a soundcard with transformer-coupled SPDIF output.

On a laptop with such shitty USB that a Wyrd won't work for you? Turn off the faucet instead of just throwing a newspaper on the floor: Ditch your Best Buy, stickered up consumer craptop and buy a Thinkpad T/W series with USB 3.0 ports with a direct 5 volt rail to the battery. Same price as a Mutec and includes an IBM clitoris.

Work computers might be tougher but then I would consider purchasing something like the Grace M9XX which has lots of crap in it to clean up the bus power, and then an AK4490 to bloom it over slightly and you can always use the wall wart. Yeah it doesn't sound as good but you should be working instead of spending over a thousand to smudge over the sound anyway...

Ha ha ha.. good one. Not a shill for anyone dude, I work in the food/ IT industry keeping everyone fat. Just posting my experience for the folks that don't want to spend all their money on marginal upgrades and get them as close to the mutec sound at a 1/3 the cost. Not everyone has the budget we may have. Haven't heard the f-1/mutec with the Yggdrasil but have heard with the Gungnir Multibit, Bifrost Multibit, and Mobi which I own. Didn't buy Yggdrasil because I'll be at the Schiit show this weekend to see if they're refreshing the Yggdrasil or something completely different. You obviously haven't heard an F-1.. also your iMac is full of Pc based components so not sure where you're getting ur info, HF?

I'm not the Apple Genius; you're the one who drank the Kool-Aid.

The non-chickenshit Macs have SPDIF outputs built into the 3.5 mm jacks and start at around the same price as a Mutec 3. A Mac Mini (or a used Lynx card) costs barely more than a Mutec 1.2.

What is "the right DAC and amp" for the HD600/650?

I am wondering, since this hobby is so subjective, how there can be a "right" DAC/amp for anything.

I don't think I've ever experienced so much resistance to buying a (very popular) headphone.

    I look like completely bonkers.

Singxer SU-1, MHDT Labs Atlantis+, Garage1217 Project Sunrise III going to JVC HA-DX2000.

The tubes get the most attention.

Are you talking about the HD800's? Honestly I can't listen to a stock pair of HD800's. I think they HAVE to be modded to tame the crazy highs. Then you have to have an amp that pairs well. For the money, I would not be happy with them. I would take my HD600's over stock HD800's.

I think that's what people are saying. You need to try the HD800's before assuming since many people speak highly of them, they must be great. They're definitely not for everyone.

I've got some bad news about my Modibit, thought Schiit made it all good as best as they reasonably could. I got back from the beach Sunday after letting the Modibit warm up over the weekend, and boom - it was dead. No LEDs, no nothing. Of course I tried power cycling it and trying different wall outlets, but it was futile. I sent Schiit an email, and ended up getting a shipping label emailed to me. I gave the box to Fedex, and later that day got the email that they shipped my replacement out to me. It was working fine before I left, so I wonder what could have killed it.

More or less where Bifrost Multibit is currently residing.

I'm glad they're making it right for you and I hope you're in the minority! Maybe the wallwart was a dud?

if i had to venture a guess, i'd say closer to the Gungnir Multibit on tonality (on the x-axis from left to right) and one notch down on the resolution y-axis, so maybe one square right and one square down from Bifrost Multibit's position. but i haven't owned a Bifrost Multibit in a while.

I don't think it was the wallwart as I had tried another, but, who knows? It sounded great and the replacement comes in Friday. :)
