Hi I'm new to this forum. I'm now using a msb dac iv as source and a adx5000 as headphone, still looking for a decent amp to go with it though. I've been playing with portable stuff since high school and started desktop in college.

    Greetings from Canada

It is sure nice to find a resource that emphasizes comparative reviews based on experience.

Love the format, love the 'SNR'. Not sure how much I will be able to contribute here, but thought I should make an introduction.

As a teenage guitarist in the late 90's I became interested in recording. This was in the early days of digital, when multi track hard disk recording was just on its way in. My passion lead to a job as a 'shill', specializing in recording technology. I would build and support recording systems for various recording and post production studios in Western Canada.

Yes, one could say I started my professional career as a slutty pimp...

As a longstanding member of the Audio Engineering Society I have attended a number of conferences, and got to meet a lot of my digital (and analog!) audio heros along the way.

Yes, I identified as an 'intellectual' as well...

...That person probably would not have been welcome here...

I would like to think I have grown a lot in the last 20 years - 15 as an independent. In some ways it's funny how little [audio] has changed in that time....

Technically, there is some interesting stuff happening, and I feel we may be entering the golden age of digital audio. So much gear, so little time...

I look forward to learning more about DACs. Conversion has been an area of interest of mine for over two decades, but it is hard to keep up with all the new gear these days (much of which seems to be crap).

I'm hoping some of the experience shared here will at least help avoid the duds as I consider the possibility of venturing into the dark realm of chi-fi!

Thank you friends and staff for the awesome platform!

    Hi Everyone,

Finally signed up here after finding out about this site. I am a long-time member of head-fi, avs, audioholics, etc. It's great to have another place to learn more about the world of audio.

Hi, I’m also from Canada and glad to join this forum. I have some experience with receivers, speakers, and IEMs, but mainly joined to learn more about headphones. I’m currently in analysis paralysis after having read so many reviews and options, so hoping to finally pull the trigger on something with the help of SABF. Thanks for this forum and look forward to learning from everyone.

    Greetings from Reykjavik!
I am an Icelandic audiophile. I have loved lurking and getting educated on the forum for the last two or three years. Been having a lot of fun lately developing my Raspberry Pi4 rig with new software, power and network tweaks.

My professional career backround is in news/radio. I am an avid music lover: Alternative Rock, Americana, Neo Classical.

    My system: i5 ROON Rock, Tidal> Buffalo/Zyxel> Pi2AES> Schiit Audio Bifrost 2> Schiit Saga > Emotiva Stealth PA-1 blocks/ KEF LS-50

Hello. After a few months of lurking and reading, I thought I'd take a stab at joining. I'm very much starting out in this hobby and looking to learn. And I'm still very much in the process of figuring out what I like and where I stand on some of the big questions in the hobby (I do know a lot of the measurements I see make my humanities-leaning brain hurt...), but I tend to be wary of extreme positions in general, so SBAF's approach resonates with me and I've already learned a lot simply by lurking.

After decades of loving music, but not necessarily caring that much about how I listened to it (aside from a random Grado purchase a few years back), I decided this past summer to pay more attention. I started looking at ways I could start listening to all of my music losslessly, rather than contenting myself with listening to AAC from my phone. I ended up signing up for Roon, setting up a Mac mini as a streamer, toyed around with a Bluesound Node (then sold it), got a pair of Meze 99 Classics and a pair of HD6xx's and have slowly started putting together my system. My last purchase was a Soekris 2541, largely based on what I read here, and I'm now considering my amp options.

Anyway, I'm grateful for what I've learned so far and I'm looking forward to learning some more.

TLDR: I came here to find music to listen to. I spent too much on headphones. I don't care if your headphone sounds so good it brings the dead back to life, I'm not buying.

    Hello from Virginia

I'm 26 years old, I love good music, good audio gear, and I'm paid like shit. Sounds like a great combo yeah?

Got into the hobby after first having my mind blown by a gaming headset. (Astro A40) Not the typical entry I know, almost a non sequitur, but with my only other experience being with crappy convenience store buds, and some bottom of the barrel Sony walkman headphones, these were absolutely jaw dropping.

NEVER before had I experienced something like that, I had never even heard soundstage before.
Everything was so new and exciting. What I originally got just so my mom would shut up about having to hear the tv while I'm playing games I began using more and more for music. As I listened more, I began to want something specifically made for music.

So I bought the Sennheiser HD6XX, the headphone everyone said would be the last headphone you would ever need.

The last headphone I would ever need huh? Yeah... that didn't end up being the case for me at least.

At this time, I had now moved away from home, and could afford to rent my own place, now this presented a tempting opportunity that living with my bitch of a mother would have been impossible earlier. I could finally have a stereo system!

I wasted no time putting together the absolute cheapest vinyl system I could. AT LP-60, Pioneer VSX 49000S, Polk TSI 200. This at first, was amazing. Never before had I heard my favorite music fill a room before. Never before had I been able to physically feel my music. To this day, I have never gotten to go to a concert. I have heard live music, but never from anyone I cared about, so I really can't stress how big this was for me.

Eventually the Pioneer started dying, so I upgraded to a NAD C372 with the caps already replaced and the patch cables installed all for $500.

I really loved the setup, added more gear to it, and had a $1,000 setup before I knew it. This was the happiest I ever was in my life, then I moved back home...

Couldn't have the stereo anymore, so sold almost everything. After spending so much on moving, I stuck with my HD6XX for a long time, I took them everywhere. They took so many beatings right along with me, they really are troopers and my best friends.

Once I got my money up, wasted no time hoarding headphones and earphones, got the Philips X2HR, Grado SR80e, Sennheiser Momentum TWS 2, Audeze iSine 10, Koss Portapro, Koss KSC-75, Hifiman Arya, Meze 99 Neo, Samsung Galaxy Buds, Final A3000 and KZ ZEX PRO/ CRN on the way.

I love good 70's stuff, prog rock, psychedelic, country, blues, and folk. (Or, more simply, I'm white)

Usually I come here from someone else sending me a link, or just googling questions. Not interested in contributing measurements, at least for the foreseeable future. Mainly, I'm here for good music suggestions, and to hear new things that other people are listening to, expand my perspective.

Hi, I'm new here. I'd consider myself pretty casual and unknowledgeable when it comes to this sort of stuff but I do enjoy and love music. Here to learn more about the technical aspect of things in a place where the information is more compact and not so overwhelming due to sheer volume.

    Please treat me well.
