Howdy, all. I usually prefer to read rather than post, and I avoid flame wars like the plague; but I DO believe in contributing when I have something I feel is worth sharing. I've been into audio since high school, so have been through a lot of hi-fi gear (I'm 76). My tastes in music are eclectic, heavily classical but include 50's - 00's pop, 60'd - 90's rock, Celtic punk, Big Band... all over the place. Due to various constraints, I listen almost exclusively via headphones. I do pay attention to measurements, but more the how something sounds to me. My current chain is: Samsung Android tablet running UAPP in bit-perfect mode > Schiit Modius E balanced out > Schiit Jotunheim2 balanced out> custom Audio Ninja XLR cables > HiFiMan Arya Stealth or DCA Aeon Closed X.

Looking forward to pleasant reading. Happy New Year!

Hi! Greetings from North Lincolnshire UK.

Pleased to be joining this very helpful reference community.

On many occasions I have found information band opinions on this forum that have helped me make purchases.

A great fan of Schiit Audio I own several pieces for both speaker and headphone systems.

Latest on the shopping list is Shanling ET3 cd transport and thereafter to see if my DACs will match for l2S connection.

I’ve been a lurker for a number of years. Before that, I was a long-time lurker on H-F.
I used to think Pink Floyd was overrated till I heard Dark Side of the Moon on a pair of MDR-V6, which were dramatically more expensive than the headphones I was used to at the time. That started my journey into this hobby.
I’m really into orchestral, classic rock, female vocalists, but I can listen to mostly anything.
When I was a little younger, I’d sign up for various venues’ email lists to get notified about which band would be in town. I would look them up on YouTube, listen to their most popular song, and if I liked it I bought a ticket to see their show. I did that for two years before burning out, but I discovered some interesting bands.
Currently, my wife and I go to operas and symphonies. She also tolerates going to orchestras that play video game music. She is starting to appreciate the Final Fantasy soundtrack as I hear her occasionally sing SEPHIROTH.
My current setup is around the Focal Utopia 2022. Right now I’m driving it with the Luxman P1u, using a Rotel CD11 Tribute as a transport connected to a Metrum Onyx DAC.

    Hi everyone,

I have for been a long time interested the Audiophile hobby starting in the 1980s through to the present. I generally listen mostly to Classical with a smattering of Rock, R&B and Jazz.

    I have a main rig of Rega Planar 3/Mani Phono Stage and Sony Z1000ES/ Modi 3+ -> Primare SA21 -> Vienna Acoustics Mozart and a bed-side/headphone setup of Marantz CD8005 -> Modi MB v1 -> Shortest Way SW51 -> HD650 /HD600.

I have been a longtime lurker on the site and appreciate all the expertise and experience that this community brings to the hobby.

Hi SBAF. I've read a few of the reviews here in the past and signed up specifically because of some questions about the TA-66 that I can't get answers on from Xduoo. I have owned my own turntable (building and reselling) related business, worked in car audio for years, had a business restoring and re-selling vintage gear, did system installs and consulting and do some marketing consulting for some small to medium size companies in the audio industry. I promise to behave and operate from the standpoint of knowing very little.

Hi, Chris here. Still looking for the "ultimate" headphone for me (currently modded SoundMagic HP150).
Just browsing here for reviews and measurements.

If you read everything here on all the gears, go to as many meets as you can to learn impressions, and buy and own tons of different setups, then you have a very good chance of never finding it.

It's probably already too late for you, so Welcome!

Hi, folks! I stumbled across a review on the site and was encouraged by the general approach. Meaning, measurements have a valid place in evaluating audio gear, but we listen with our ears (not our eyes). Some of the most important things in life can’t be measured, and some mysteries won’t be solved anytime soon. (Probably not in this life.)

I am open to diverse viewpoints, on audio gear and most other topics. Diversity is a social good and none of us has a monopoly on truth or wisdom. My worldview aligns with Daoism (as I understand it), which is to say fundamentally non-exclusive and non-adversarial. My worldview has a practical application: I'm a negotiator. The golden rule? Listen first, don’t speak until you understand the other person’s perspective.

And I love music: classical, jazz, pop/rock. Good music, played back through a good system, sometimes pins me to my listening chair like a butterfly pinned to a card.
