I feel like Reddit often shows the bad side of forums, which is namely group-think.

The root problem lies in the need for validation from complete strangers even if it goes against your experience or better judgement. While not everyone is an expert, and not everyone's opinion is equally as valid (post-modernisms ubiquitous lie...), the environment on reddit and some other forums seem to sacrifice experience at the alter of pseudo-science.

Do you run to a forum because you want to engage the community and add something to it, or do you do it validate your sense of self-worth and/or monetary investments?

Or that amplifiers can't be designed to sound different (hey, tone controls exist, right? They can always be hard-wired) ...or that the reply "So you are saying that everything sounds the same, right?" covers every audiophool myth.

Intersting. At first my mouth fell open at the breadth of your argument, then I thought... Yep. Not all self-centred people are mass murderers, but a mass murderer is probably self centred. Civility comes of thinking about others.

Yep. I'm not using it now, but sorry, I am not going to admit that that my ODAC didn't and doesn't sound pretty good. It sounds just fine. IS it the best, or indistinguishable from the best? I doubt that very much, but did I plug it in, take one listen and throw it away. Nope.

Some of the problem with these audio wars (which I have given up: just too tedious) is that people on both "sides" make up their version of the argument (eg, that the other person is saying that everything sounds the same) and then knock it down. I'm not sure what the technical name for that is, maybe a straw man? Perhaps it should be renamed audiophile man!

    :D

For quite a while,, any interest I have had in these arguments is in the mental process involved, not in the arguments themselves. So often they are object lessons is how not to think!

Winter is the peak season of Dead Horse Threads. All of the motor sports forums are running the annual Fram oil filter and K&N air filter threads. The gunnies are talking about whether the 9mm round is strong enough.

Oh wait, the Obs and the Subs go at it all year. Never mind.
