I am going to leave Amsterdam. Gentrification is not something I want to enjoy. Amsterdam is heading in the direction of London. Only my old friends keep me around...

A little jail time might help some of them develop the necessary patience. Natan Sharansky said it helped him learn to brush his teeth properly (though it did give him a heart condition). And Chiba Sensei once yelled at a student: "Learn to block or I'll kill you [by accident]! I am not afraid of prison! Prison is a *great* place to practice aikido!"

All my years being a good Christian laid the foundation for much of my discipline. After that my love for martial arts. I am not fond of religion, grateful for all the years of preparation though.

I've heard from realtors that N Texas is the #1 California expatriate area in the country.

So prices are through the roof here. I hear stories of people getting $50-100k over ask, no contingency. Sometimes waiver of inspection.

Gentrification sucks the life blood from the district's cultural atmosphere and replaces it with an upscale cartoon representation.

A friend from Rotterdam moved to Belgium to work and live and I believe it was for similar reasons.

It wasn’t the ‘new Daft Punk album’ I expected, but it’s the one I have come to love the most.

This one and "Discovery" make my heart skip a beat. There are not enough words to express why.

I agree, Discovery and RAM are their two best albums, and the two I listen to most.

My wife (an MD) has seen a marked difference in clinic with omicron between mRNA vaxxed, J&J vaxxed and unvaxxed. Unvaxxed have had way worse symptoms, J&J has been almost as bad as unvaxxed and mRNA vaxxed are almost all very mild. That is her firsthand observation.

@DigMe thanks, it's good to hear on the ground reports. I'm boosted on Pfizer, but clinically vulnerable. I've kept informed via research papers and following a few epidemiologists with a good track record. However I'm now faced with either shielding alone for an endless duration, or mitigate where poss., enforce FFP3/N95 mask usage, hope there are no escape variants, and roll the dice.

I didn't trust it to hold during the trough before Delta. My wife, a Mistress of Public Health, thought I was nuts when I insisted on masks. I'm sticking with that till the Israelis give the O.K. When you're attacked for 70+ years, you get good at war and medicine.

Before that happens - while the person still has all their marbles - get powers of attorney or whatever your local equivalent is. If activated by a medical opinion that the person becomes unable to make decisions for/look after themselves, you (or whoever is attorney) can make decisions and start to tidy up their affairs so that when it comes to estate time, the process will be smoother & quicker.

GF just lost her mom this week. no planning, no nothing. besides grief, we're not looking forward to the next 6-12 months of administrivia.
