    Manufacturer's Description:

The oBravo HAMT-1 is the world’s first headphone to combine the most advanced headphone driver technologies, the Air Motion Transformer (AMT) Tweeter and the Dynamic Neodymium Drivers.

The rich wood design of the HAMT-1 is elegant yet extremely comfortable and durable.

    Main Features:

    • First coaxial two-way design
    • Combines AMT tweeter & Dynamic Neodymium Driver
    • Uses Alcantara material for longer use
    • Light weight design
    Details

With the HAMT-1, oBravo combines Air Motion Transformer tweeter with Dynamic Neodymium Drivers. Combining these two headphone driver technologies delivers the finest bass performance of any headphone in its class.

The oBravo HAMT-1 is enhanced by a coaxial structure design giving you a unique listening experience. You will get a full spectrum of audio, hearing every nuance and every note.

The deep and fully rotating earpieces are the ideal home for the coaxial structure made of the 40mm AMT tweeter and the 57mm neodymium woofer making this the first headphone of its kind.

    Air Motion Transformer

Air Motion Transformer (AMT) was developed and patented by German physicist Dr. Oskar Heil in the 1960s. The beauty about AMT is its ability to get sound to vibrate faster than a dome or cone can do. The diaphragm does not move back and forth in a simple piston-like motion, but compresses like an accordion. As the space between the folds narrows, the air within is released and then sucked back in as the space expands. These relatively small motions drive more air which is ideal for a high efficiency and faithful transient behavior. With Air Motion Transformation, the oBravo HAMT-1 can do loud and fast.

    Design

The oBravo HAMT-1 is a low-Z design and is loud enough to deliver a great sound even on feeble portable players.

The oBravo HAMT-1 has a removable wooden cover that allows you to open the headphone and adapt the three bass reflex ports of the woofer to your specific tastes.

The earpads are made of the Alcantara velour material that enhances the sonic tuning process while being amazingly soft and cozy.

With the size of the headphones being larger, the oBravo HAMT-1 surrounds the ear and seals off any unwanted ambient noise.

The oBravo HAMT-1 has a 56 ohms impedance. Though it is a full size headphone, the oBravo HAMT-1 will play even with smartphones like Apple and Android devices.

An additional feature of the HAMT-1 is the included tuning kit. The kit consists of a variety of silicon plugs that vary the venting of the drivers internally so you can custom tune the headphones to your sweet spot.

I haven't had the opportunity to try it out myself but I remember impressions of the prototype was rather negative. Hope they have fixed a lot of things since then, otherwise buzzwords like "Air Motion Transformer Tweeter" or "Dynamic Neodymium Drivers" don't mean jack shit for a $1.9K headphone.

Agreed. Unless someone can demo them, their fancy terms for their drivers don't mean much.

Those are some dorky lookin' mo-fucqers. I hear good things about AMTs in speakers, but I'm not sure how well it'd translate to headphones.

When I listened to these last year they sounded like shit. Didn't take 5 seconds to realize that something was very wrong with them. Tyll's measurements were taken a bit later but I doubt that they changed much between when I listened to a prototype and his measurements.

Perhaps they are an ode to nature's beauty? (Compare to the measurements...)

How in the f**k does something like that ever get released? I'm not one to jump to conclusions about how something sounds based on graphs, but there's no way that's going to sound good.

    This joke never gets old.

I honestly don't know. And they are an established loudspeaker company to boot. You would think they would know what good sounds like...

Maybe these loudspeaker companies just assume all headphones sound this bad because they can't make anything that sounds good, and obviously if they can't do it, nobody can.

Ahahaha, the very first line that greets you on their webpage is "It's like strapping a pair of Wilson speakers to your ears."

Granted my experience with Wilson is limited, but it was not a pleasant experience...

Oh, you wait.. there are already some guys on Head-Fi saying "measurements mean nothing, I've got these things and they are amazing!" -- "They just need to burn in for 7000 hours and then it all comes together". There will be folks who love these things. But when was the last time you saw a headphone that sounded radically different than what you expected from seeing the measurements? I'm not expecting to be surprised by these either.

Reducing font size in lieu of strikethrough cuz I can't seem to find it.

"Oh by the way, the hamt-1 is famous for its soundstage presentation"

How did it get this reputation already. I mean how many have they sold and how many folks have made this proclamation. WTF

This type of statement might be hilarious if it were not so sad o_O

    EDIT:

Wait a minute. Why the eff am I commenting on a thread of a headphone introduced in 2014 with some comments made by a short time poster in 2015. This can obviously is dead and never got any traction. Why we have a thread here is.......well.........perplexing.

EDIT 2: Note to self, stop posting noise.....................................

That right there is Takato's next mountain, because obviously the HD700 wasn't challenging enough.
