If bass is really important for you Aegir prob isn't the ticket. It was kinda limp on my old speakers which were about 95dB efficient w/15" woofers. Tyr or Wotan would prob be the move (if you could swing it)

Thanks for clarifying. My current Schiit stack is ‘blood and guts’ for now - but I want to say a word of thanks to @schiit for offering the Last Call pricing (to me who had bought the non-Forkbeard version of Tyrs less than a month before this translated to an unexpected rebate). Listening to the most recent podcast, it seems that when Tyr-F comes out it will have other extra tech in it as well, so will be considerably more expensive. So it’s a great deal that won’t be there for long.

High praise indeed. The Tyrs are endgame for me. I am sure if I looked hard enough I could find something I liked better. But not until potential several spins on the merry go round of spending way more money on amps that either did not sound right or were more of a side grade. I have already done that too much. This ABS writeup encapsulates how I feel about the Tyrs. They just get it right for me and my system. And the difficult to drive Mangepan 1.7i are absolutely man handled by the Tyrs. Great combo.

Curious as to people's impressions of Tyr vs Wotan (but I'm guessing that not many have heard both)

I was just joking to my wife that the most expensive audio product I own-- and that I bought 3 years ago-- is the budget product of the year in 2025.

I tried to get my wife to come to Axpona with me so I could show her that my system was truly budget level. Would not take her long to realize in hi end audio the Tyrs are low budget.

Its been two days, I do not think they have many hours on them. They sound sort of rolled off and dull on the top? Everything is sort of (grey maybe dry) sounding. I am a tube guy for the last 35 years so maybe its just the difference between tubes and SS? Maybe there not broken in. Marv suggested in his review a passive would be good, Im using an autoformer pre.
Im not ready to decide one way or tthe other appreciate any thoughts on what Im hearing
    best,
    Josh

well I switched some power cables around and bam there cooking with gas. I switched to my tube amp and I was very surprised the Tyrs are as good with a different flavor, not a lot different. Im impressed, there clearer without the mids becoming thin or cold, top end is sweet and the bass is kaboom when needed. I think there keepers and the tube amp pain in the ass always some problem may be out the door.
    best,
    Josh

I'd go with either 5A or 6A. The transformer is rated at 600 VA. In the US, at 115V, it would be 6A at peak. For places use 220V power, the 3A fuse fits better. Voltage rating doesn't matter (250 V vs 125 V). The more important specs for fuses to me are fast-blow or slow-blow types. My understanding was that the power amp should use slow-blow type fuses so that it could withstand in-rush current when switched on. Fuses have wide specs (blow-up amperage is much higher than the rating), thus 5A would do just fine in the US.

Have been listening to the Tyrs for a almost two weeks. I have compared them to my tube amp and they sound clearer more upfront, not in your face at all, very smooth, resolved with a beautiful delicacy. Im really liking them. Compared directly to my tube amp (which is a great amp) it is more subdued, further back in its presentation , less clarity and with beautiful tone and warmth. Im so surprised by how good the Tyr's are as this is the first SS amp I have had in 35 years it has warmth and sweetness, not what I expected. Its really really good. Very happy I was able to pick a set up at a good price, I think Im selling my tube amp.
    best,
    Josh

Marches my sentiments as well. The Tyr's are underrated partly I believe due to how inexpensive they are and lack of audio jewelry build quality. I have always generally preferred tube amps in the high frequencies due to the dryness of some SS. I do not sense that dryness with Tyr but rather a sound that just seems right to me. Have some Bill Frisell recordings with great high frequencies that to me are just ear candy on the Tyrs.

Where would you guys compare/describe the Tyrs to a Pass Labs XA25 or XA30.8?
