Not to worry. I use my setup while trading at home, not just on music. So trading futures during regular trading hours, then doing price action replays and market research videos pertinent to macroeconomics etc. Then also movies occasionally as well, then also doing my art I listen so my chain gets a pretty massive usage, and we do not have a TV in the house. Segued from my career in analytical instrumentation for petrochemical / refining into self employment. So any decision to make a change in my chain is naturally accompanied by much research and thought. SBAF has been a huge help in this naturally.

I'll just chime in, a lot of desk jobs require long periods of sitting. Maybe not 18 hours of sitting, but 6-7 hours for 5 days per week. Factor that in over X amount of years and it's amazing how much time you get out of a setup. The setup I used for that period was designed for long listening sessions with minimal fatigue (putting me in the unusual position of not being eager to go home at the end of the day sometimes if I was in the middle of listening to something compelling). My current position is far more active/social (a lot of face to face meetings), so I kind of miss this level of zen. I can't imagine a 9-5 without either a good music setup or a high level of communication/human interaction, although I'll say I found trading too stressful to enjoy music while monitoring an active position - for that, I preferred the bland CNBC commentary or daytrading stream.

I managed to read this entire thread in 2 days :) I am considering a used Yggdrasil+ GS2 vs a LiM. I own a Pontus II and Gungnir Multibit. The Yggdrasil will be married to a Rag 2 and LS50's. I'll also use some ZMFs in this system. I generally like timbre and authenticity in the instruments. I listen to classical, modern classical variations and jazz. From what I've read so far, I'm leaning toward the LiM. However, I am now considering buying the good deal on the GS2 I found and at some point soon also purchasing the LiM upgrade cards to see what works best in my system and for me. For those that have done the upgrade, is it just unscrewing a bunch of screws to expose the internals and then swapping out the cards as in plug and play? No soldering? I'll make sure to post impressions and comparisons either way.

    Thanks!

Can't speak for the LIM, but my friend went from a Pontus2 to a GS1. Here was his feedback on the obvious differences:
    - GS sounds more real with better timbre
    - GS has better texture and inner detail
    - GS has better depth to the image of the voices and instruments
    - GS shows greater differences between recordings
    - Stage depth is similar, but GS has better layering
    - Pontus2 has a wider stage
    - Pontus2 does modern resolution aspects better (separation, instrument outlining, black-ground etc.)
    - The lower treble on the GS can be a little prickly at times

His chain: DAC > Sugden IA4 > Spendor Classis 1/2

Timbre-wise the GS2 will sound wonderful with ZMF's and the genres you are listening to, it follows the Gungnirs neutral(-ish) tonality but steps it up a notch in technicalities.
As I stated here before - if you can build your own PC you can swap cards in the Yggi, Purrin even posted the video with the instructions on how to take it apart here somewhere.

Ah, ok, great. I'll search for that. I should have done it. Looked at YouTube and found a video on swapping the Get 5 card, which I have done before in the Gungnir. And yes, I can build my own PC. I can put together an amateur radio station as well, but my eyes don't help with soldering in tight places anymore and these PCBs look crowded :)

    Thank you!

Thank you all for the information. I'll be joining the club shortly. Pulled the trigger on the GS2 and waiting for it to be shipped. First post here, but I have been reading for some time. Very helpful group!

Edited it to "neutral-ish", compared to the rest of Schiits lineup I percieved it as such, with the A1 definitely being more neutral.

My apologies if I missed this:
Is there a guide to remove the shell from the Yggydrasil+ chassis similiar in kind as there is for the original chassis?

I just recieved my Yggdrasil A2/Unison back after having the Yggdrasil+ upgrade done and I now have a transformer hum that I did not previously. This is a mechanical hum and not heard in the audio signal. I suspect that in return shipping it may have been jostled around and I want to check and make sure the transformers and other internals haven't come loose.

The Yggdrasil+ uses the same slide-on panel mounting as most other medium and large chassis Schiit products. try using either a plastic spudger tool to pry the lid forward on the chassis, or flip the DAC over and place it on a grippy surface, then push downward and toward the back of the chassis and the lid should slide free. Note, you're still going to need to unplug the ribbon cable to fully remove the cover, but if you're just inspecting the transformers, you can probably leave the ribbon cable attached and flip up the lid.

I'm sorry for the question, but this thread looks like a good place to ask... I have a headphone system I'm happy with, but the desire to go betterer is always there :) Biforst 2/64 -> Mjolnir 3 -> HEK Stealth. I'm a bit of a Shiithead, but I live in Europe so not that ideal as I can't try out things before buying them. I'm considering replacing the Bitforst 2/64 with either Yggdrasil LIM or A2/OG. I mainly listen to progressive rock, metal, trance, and blues, but also various genres with rich vocals. Do you think my chain would be improved by tossing one of the Yggys in, I mean would it be a sidegrade or an actual upgrade (I'm led to believe it would be based on the big price difference)? Based on my listening which one? Thank you!

For my preferences (in your chain) a Yggdrasil A2 would be, LIM not so much (but still a bit of improvement).

But you will have to put in the work and triangulate what you like w/ the reports in this and other threads. Even then, there is always a risk/reward as you never know exactly until you put ears on a piece of gear...

Yggdrasil would be a step+ from the BF2/64. You can’t get an A2 new anymore so you’ll have to seek out the used market. I would consider the GS2 because it’s quite a bargain, and it’s probably closer to the 2/64 sound than the A2 (my conjecture from triangulation). For your MJ3, the thread mentions synergy with the MIB (and not quite the LIM) so you might just go directly that route.

Having said the above, if you like the BF with your MJ3, maybe you should just be content with that. If you’re itching to try the Yggdrasil (assuming you can afford to) you probably should try them side by side before deciding to sell either. You just might keep the BF.

With all these folks that switched to LiM why arent there any A2 cards for sale anywhere?
I have A1 and have been itching to try the A2. Seems like Unobtanium though.

TBH, for me, swapping boards is like an expensive and slightly dangerous version of tip-rolling or pad-rolling for Yggdrasil. I like that switching between LIM and A2 (and eventually, probably, MILF/MIB, and GS/OG, too!) gives me known variable when trying to tweak synergies. So, I can't really see myself selling my A2 or LIM boards, and I could suppose there are other friends with similar cultish hoarder tendencies due to Yggdrasil's versatility.

What exactly are the sonic differences between the only available versions of Yggdrasil, Less is More (the one I own) and the More is Better, with the 20-bit dac chips? The LiM has perfect black background, great resolution (to my ears anyway), the best dac I have ever personally heard. What exactly are the signature differences between the two, specifically with regards to using a Schiit Mjolnir amp in this chain? Does MiB still have the blackground same as the LiM? The same great timbre of the LiM? Is the main difference the resolving power of the 20-bit dac chips, enabling a cleaner treble region? Is there THAT MUCH difference between the LiM and the MiB? The AO is the same on both dacs? It would be great if someone could elucidate on the major differences between these two dacs, as they are currently the only variants available from
Schiit right now. Thanks in advance...
