There are many manufacturers of armatures. An old list from Cymbacavum here: https://www.google.com/amp/s/cymbac...ompanies-make-balanced-armature-speakers/amp/

Knowles and Sonion are the most famous; they do both off the shelf and custom versions. But Bellsing is used a lot as well. Molex/Final Audio and Sony make their own. Yashima Electric made the armature driver in the Grado and Ortofon iems if I recall correctly. Of course many of these other manufacturers are lesser known and aren’t in as many brands and models.

Problem with BAs is that their moving rods have hardly any inertia when it comes to vibration, hence zero 'body'. How your drum behaves in real life is similar to the behavior of dynamic drivers, thus people lean towards DD more often when bass response is the priority.

Some BAs seem to get rid of such distinctive 'feature', but having the same mechanism throughout they will more or less sound thin to some extent (except for the CI from Knowles or the vented 3800 from Sonion).

This is good info. Obviously because of the lack of good body and defined bass is why the move to hybrids, which still has another host of issues like speakers with a woofer and tweeter with balance and time alignment as well as having issues of both as well.

And it is also hard to know what manufacturers uses those two you mentioned. I am one for expensive IEM's, I just never thought the high cost of multiple driver BA's equaled in performance. This new design seems promising if you guys can get manufacturing costs down.

The 3800 is used in the Shure 846 you mentioned earlier.

Well you won't have much problem with phase and time alignment if there is crossover involved, nor tubing ;)
