Somehow, I spent most of a lifetime thinking that speakers had to be in a box or else they sounded like nothing. Open baffle was a revelation!

I bet that speaker is something really special. Probably the rest of his system components too. But the real porn here is the LP porn... ten thousand albums according to the linked tweet

    :D

Even though he's an internationally renowned author, I'm sure his vinyl collection is far bigger than his book collection

Oh noes, what about reflections off the monitor now when you sit on the couch?! Better line the back with felt or put a blanket over it for serious listening. ;)

Just turn the monitor 45-90 degrees when on the couch. Easy peasy.

Couches for audiophiles should have much higher backs, extending higher than the head.

I used to notice, regularly*, better sound sitting on the floor with my back against the couch, than sitting on it with a wall somewhere behind me.

    *several homes, several systems.

I have a couch up against a wall, and when I listen I put a pillow on top of my couch behind my head. I like to think it makes a difference. Now I mostly do it out of habit (and to annoy my wife).

Or get a monitor arm with built-in cable management (I have HumanScale arms which are pricey but very nice) which makes repositioning even easier.

Walls close behind the listener are notoriously bad because of the reflections. My better half was not happy when I said I wouldn't put the seating any closer than 6ft.

Diffusers back there do wonders I've read - better than absorbers.

I think that's only true if you are not sitting next to it. From what GiK Acoustics told me during a consult many years ago, if you sit close then you want as thick of broadband absorption behind your listening position as you can manage.

Dual 15" and dual 21" per side is awesome but actively powered by Pascal class D amps... maybe not so much.

Impressive looking speaker, and agree with you 100%.
What's the point of using 2x 21' woofers, which should give low fs and high sensitivity, and slap some cheap class D amp on them, like one would do with low sensitivity, small woofers in a small cabinet. Also, the dual 15' midranges...could have used one 15' as midbass, and one 8' midrange to match the horn (which can be crossed higher if mated to an 8').

Looks great but questionable design choices IMO.
