I have been reflecting on the life, death and legacy of many musicians whose end came sooner than should be right. You know what I mean. Lives snuffed out by accident, addiction, suicide and other tragic events.

It feels appropriate that they should be remembered and celebrated. Hopefully some here will learn to love and explore music that is new to them.

Please post a little about their life, their death and, most importantly, their music.

This is not the place for irreverence or demeaning humour.

There are a lot of people who in the music industry that I would consider a huge loss but I think many people will agree that the greatest loss was the loss of John Lennon. As someone who doesn't really like The Beatles even I respect his passion for philanthropy and a desire to save humanity. In a lot of ways I think if Lennon was alive today he would definitely still be an activist and great songwriter. He is actually one of the few musicians I think that could survive the change of time and be able to relate just the same to generations beyond his own (I think this is very difficult as many bands really can't do this).

Really sad that he was murdered by a crazed fan, he not only died far too young in my opinion but to me the world lost a truly great person. The reason why I picked Lennon is that most other musicians died due to excess while Lennon died for no good reason. Don't get me wrong many of the musicians I miss I miss more because of their musical talents but Lennon I miss not necessarily because of his musical contributions but instead his sheer courage to use his fame as a platform to stand up for the rights of humans and wasn't afraid to speak out against war in a constructive manner.

There's a really good film about her downfall by Todd Haynes, who also directed a bunch of other interesting films like I'm Not There. It was his student film and used Barbie Dolls in place of actors. It sounds absurd but it actually works in the film's favor.

My fifth grade teacher's brother piloted that plane. Tragic.
