That's a great price for a GMB, less so if it's the DS model, tho it does have its fans, I feel like sub-500 for the DS is more appropriate given its age—and I've seen many go for around that price. Also, think you have to be a member to access that page?

DNA Stratus - Looks like an estate sale type situation

Update: I bought this and I thought the guy ripped me off. He made an honest mistake and I got a MMB1.. I thought he may have mistaken the MMB for a MMB2. He was confused by people calling the MBB version 2. We talked and I agreed to keep the dac and he refunded me $50. All worked out well. I removed negative feedback and hopefully we are now friends.

 

That is a bummer, and the seller clearly mislabeled the ad, but the sticker on the back of the DAC does say multibit, not multibit 2. Hopefully he will acknowledge the error and refund you money. If you paid with PayPal, you may be able to file a claim.

 

Update: Definitely MMB1. No MMB2 on back, no MMB2 manual, no NOS mode, runs warm, much thicker sounding which I actually like. Still a good dac but not for $225. I want some of the price refunded and the seller did refund me $50 and I kept the dac. I really like the MMB1 so this turned out to be a good deal.

 

I would have interpreted his ad as original MMB with the mid-life upgrade that added dithering and maybe other stuff. It was called V2 here for awhile when it first came out. Switch from AD chips to OPA chips came relatively late in life. Not sure there's a way to tell from S/N, I think you will have to look.

Edit: but I understand the description could be confusing. He could have been more clear, and a stand-up guy would agree to take it back.

 

Damn I would have bought this just to check out a Cayin amp.

 

Is this a good price? I’m interested in hearing one of these in my home.

That’s the highest price shown for a completed sale shown on HifiShark. Other completed sales are $2400 to $2900, one @ $3000.

on the other hand, this is the only current listing shown, only 3 completed sales this year, and 6 in 2022, so more of a seller’s market

I'm interested too but a friend complained that the Stratus was a poor match for his Susvara and Final D8K, especially in the bass. I'm curious about DNA amps but seems that from reading various impressions from various sources they may not be a good match if you predominantly use a planar headphone.

It depends on which ortho. I don't like the D8000 Pro and have never heard a Susvara but by all accounts I would not like it.

@loadexfa loves his RD-4 from the Status and @Bill-P heard it and loved it too... so I feel some obligation to at least give DNA a shot in the mix of amps swirling around my brain.

 

Thank God it's low voltage, you and I know what I would wind up with if it was a high voltage preamp... another Aikido ahhh

 

If it's a v3 it's a fairish price if they cover shipping (maybe talk down to $2,900). They annoyingly don't show the serial number. V4s (Current Stratus) go for around $4,300 plus used.

V2s go for $2300 to $2,500 used.
