Yes I did the research please see my post #803. "Garuspik also said that Verum has almost zero inductance and capacity so high Zout of amp won't affect frequency response."

But honestly I really don't know what purr1n say about the voltage divider formula. This's my bad.

    Thanks for your explanation.

The "unreasonable" I said was not about the symptoms. Was how he "have no idea".

No. The amp is a bad design in 2019.
    1. The reasons are that headphones, especially orthos, have been moving to lower and lower impedances for a time now. LCD-X was 20-ohms and that was many years ago. Verum isn't much lower at 12-ohms.
    2. Most IEMs are nominal 16-ohms or so with some IEMs having dips as low as 2-ohms. The use of headamps with IEMs is commonplace now.
    3. Stuff like this was discussed years ago. Don't have to believe me. I will cite Tyll Hertsens, the grandfather of personal audio: https://www.innerfidelity.com/content/meridian-explorer-case-study-effects-output-impedance (note that I was shit on at HF for discovering this - the disbelief, the outrage - at me)
    4. As a result of incidents like #3, reputable manufacturers have made a concentrated effort to design amps with as low of a source impedance as possible, like near zero.
    5. There is absolutely NO REASON for a solid-state amp to have such as high source impedance unless it's a boutique amp designed specifically for certain headphones. Solid-state amp's strengths are low source impedance and high current capability (opposite to tube amps). Why make a solid-state amp with none of the advantages of a solid-state amp and most of the disadvantages of an OTL tube amp?

Just for your reference. My Verum is 8ohms with stock cable.

Just to be clear, I’m Very thankful to @Artyouth and the whole community for support. I’ve read suggestions about amp output impedance and further will recommend amps with low Zout instead of saying “I have no idea”. But I really didn’t know till this week about existence of solid state amps with Zout higher then few ohms.
And for sure if anybody will have some cosmetic or working issue I’ll try my best to solve a problem.

What you missed in all that was that a Solid State amp with a 10 and 20 ohm output impedance is a failure of design. Only the very cheap amps get that kind of spec.
No Schitt amp does. Look at the JD Labs Atom. He does make a good amp and look at the very low output impedance. Look at any Cavalli amp. The list goes on and on. You do get what you pay for. There are great bargains out there but Topping is not one of them.
Now I wonder about My Loxjie amp. I do not know it's output impedance and don't know how to figure it out. Not sure I will continue playing the Verum out of that amp until I know more, considering what you went thru.
So, thanks for posting your issue.
The Verum is hardly a bad design. Seriously consider flipping the Topping and getting a proper amp before you abandon the Verum. A proper amp will play all of your headphones well.

So he mentioned it won't affect the frequency response, as in it won't change the signature of the headphones. Planar magnetic headphones are not affected by impedance as dynamic ones are.

I've just tried the Verum with 120 impedance from my set amp and I can drive them to deafening levels without any sort of distortion because the amp cam push the necessary current. Cheap opamps can't do that and certainly can't do 1W in 8ohm.

    Apples and oranges.

Because no one in their right mind would make something like this!!!

The fact that the Topping brand was so heavily shilled by the "science" cult and that Jimster guy is just icing on the cake.

By the way. your pic of the yokes. Could the yokes be off center?. @Artyouth
At the top adjustment dial, when you remove it, you will see each side has a number of holes. Perhaps it is already off center or you may be able to fix the issue by overlapping 1 side over the other a bit more so that they are equally aligned. Put the dial back in and your issue may be gone.

Do we know if it's opamps or a buffer or dedicated headamp chip?

I was going to suggest SBAF funds (my own money until we sell the $$$ DACs on the loaner) for the DX7 for a full analysis, but WTF $500 for a ChiFi AIO? That science cult is doing a lot of damage to consumers' pocketbooks.

I am new in the forum and just introduced myself
Which amplifier would you recommend in the price range between 100 and 150?
I know Verum One needs an amplifier with low output impedance.

Schiit Modi 3 is kind of the default recommendation?

Also the massdrop liquid carbon x and the monoprice liquid platinum, but those need shipping from the US. The Dutch schiit distributor is out of stock on the Modis, but the UK distributor has them in stock.

Edit: I just checked and Jan Meier's amps start at 220 so that's out of budget.

Any further questions, please take them to the recommendations thread

It has TI headphone amp chips as the final output stage.

I've got one that I'd be happy to contribute. It's just sitting on the desk here unused -- just LMK how.

OK, no personal offence taken.) Thank you for your explanation, though. Not that I care much about the number of dislikes, but it's better to know what you're doing wrong in the new place.

Oh geez. With the 10-ohm SE / 20-ohm balanced source impedance, I should have known it was the TPA6120. (Same used on Sennheiser HDVD800 AIO - the 20-ohm output impedance synergizes well with the HD800 - I happen to think 200ohm ZOut is optimal for the HD800).

Per TI datasheet, the TPA6120 wants at least a 10-ohm resistor in series after the output. Presumably for stability and to prevent oscillations. Other than for use with the HD800 where is it OK and has certain synergistic qualities, the TPA6120 sounds like ass because it imparts too much of a sound of its own.

This is a 2004 part. Seriously? The sound designers at Topping couldn't be bothered to scour the catalog of TI and National parts and perhaps evaluate at least a handful of more suitable parts? But instead went lazy because "TPA6120" was such a known buzzword a few years ago. For $500, I'd like to see some engineering into it, if not a discrete design. So typical of ChiFi. Buzzwords and copy from datasheets. This brings shame to all people with Chinese blood in them, myself included. Hey, at least they used OPA1612 instead of 4134/2134 for the IV conversion. That shows some creativity, right?

You know this chart, right? Beware, I'm from East-Europe... :)
Based on the praising and applaud on the Internet I started to believe that these headphones are the best thing since the sliced bread. It would prove that all the audiophile equipment is just dust in the eyes, and it will be better from a phone than the $1000+ headphones from a decent dac and amp. Spoiler: it didn't. So my first impression was a bit of a letdown, but only because of unrealistic expectations. To pull everyone back to earth I will share my findings frankly, and I won't just praising this headphones withholding the negatives. I believe it's useful to know them, even if it's just nitpicking - one critic might be more useful for improvement than ten worshiper.

    Packaging
It's true that there's only bubble wrap inside the box, but at least there is more than enough of it. For me this packaging is fine. It protects the headphones well enough. Big companies can provide better and nicer, but I don't buy headphones because of the packaging so I don't care.

    Wire
It's a bit too thin for my liking, therefore a bit prone to tangle. The part between the Y-splitter and the headphones is unusually long. The splitter is almost at my belly button when I use the headphones! I measured it: 48cm. Why so long? I measured some others too: Norne Draug 30cm, HD650 original 25cm, Forza Noir 33cm, Cardas 30cm, etc. The splitter is very light, durable and professional-looking, and only the individual wires after the splitter are slightly microphonic. The full length of the cable is about 1.9m (75 inches).
The amp side ending has a 3.5" jack stereo plug. Unfortunately, it's the kind of plug which has a wide shoulder, so it cannot be connected to a phone if that's in a case. A screw-on adapter for 6.25mm connector is provided too.
The other endings have 2.5" stereo jack plugs. I like it because it's cheap and available everywhere. Though these are stereo plugs, only the peaks are connected. I like this arrangement because the left and right can be easily changed if necessary. The small plugs are marked with L and R.

    The headphones
The carbon style looks much better in real life than on the pictures. The headphones seems durable, except one glitch: the cover plate isn't fixed well. In my case it fell off 20 minutes after I started using the headphones. I think it's because I was on the balcony, and the sun shined on it (though the temperature was only about 8 C°). The plate on the other side started to peel off too. The two-sided glue doesn't seem to be a good way to fasten these plates. I'm thinking about remove the two-sided glue pieces and use hot glue instead. What do you think, @Garuspik? Is this a good idea? Seems obvious, but I'm afraid there might had been a reason why you decided against it.

The ear cups are nicely painted under the plates too, even if it's normally not visible.

    Headband
My unit arrived with two chips on the right headband. One of them can be seen on the previous picture (a bit above the center of the pic). The aquaprint is also a bit pealed off on one side:

Not a big deal, similar glitches occur even in mass production.

The height of the headband can be changed by screws. On one hand it's very good, because once you set it up to the size of your head, and it retains the setting firmly. On the other hand, if you're not the only user of the headphones it's burdensome to adjust it frequently.

    Earcups
They look huge, yet they often touches my ears here and there. I swear that I don't have jumbo ears :). Even with that it is comfortable on the head. The HD-800 is even more comfortable though. The cups are covered with (faux?) leather. To my surprise, it isn't sweaty: seems like it ventilates somehow. The climping force is just right. Because of the sharp edges and size it's very uncomfortable to put it around the neck temporarily.

    Weight
The scale shows that these are on the heavy side, but I don't feel it heavy on my head. Maybe I will think otherwise after longer listening sessions.

    Sound
I need more time to judge that properly. The price/performance ratio is great for sure, but I couldn't determine yet where these headphones are on the absolute scale. Currently it seems to me that the HD800 is better for the kind of music I listen. Also very-very different. In fact, I have never heard such a huge difference between two great headphones.

    Creator
I'm really respect what @Garuspik did here. It can be a great example and inspiration for many creative people around the world. He had a dream, put in the effort, and executed it. He kept his promises and deadlines. He proved that great results can be archieved in the less lucky countries of the world too. Bravo!

@AudioFriend thanks for your honest and detailed post.
About that problem with a grill - yep, at least 30-40 Verum 1 will have it ;( When I shipped several batches it was -20C and headphones stored several days in post warehouse without heating and that 2-sided tape just peel of.
This problem is now solved. I just bought crazy expensive 3M double sided tape for outdoor usage that has all needed glue capabilities even at -20C. Tested it it my freezer - everything is ok.
Unfortunately I haven't foreseen that situation. Half of early birds from KS and all "late" birds will receive heaphones without that problem (and yes, it's now more warm in Ukraine).
So to fix this I suggest you to use any double sided tape if you're not going to leave them on street for several days during Ukrainian winter ;) Please don't use hot glue, double sided tape is a true friend of an audioplile!

p.s. Let's take in a positive sight - you can now change damping easily :D
