What are you guys using when you're out and about? I find little to no information about DAPs and explicitly portable solutions here or on CS. Is portable hifi frowned upon around these parts? I spend alot of time on public transportation and that's where I spend alot of my quality time with music.

I've just bought a Shanling M3 and an Oppo PM-3, which I will definitely be using frequently on train rides. What's everybody else's portable setup?

Custom Art? Interesting! How do yo lilke it? I almost ordered the Massdrop-exclusive model but opted for a Cosmic Ears CE5P instead, which a certain someone recommended.

UERM (needs to send back for fit adjustment)
    Fiio X5 (first gen)

Thinking about getting the UH6, though I'm curious about the upcoming Cavalli portable.

Explicitly portable solutions are definitely not frowned upon.

Right now, I'm using a Galaxy Note 4 > Sennheiser Amperior setup for my daily driver. I have a pair Amperiors with no 6k peak or sibilance. Such a f'ing fluke. (Then I recabled it with a stock HD-25 steel cable and clamp because the Amperior dongle is aesthetically and functionally stupid.)

In the future when LH ships, Note 4 OTG or Laptop > Geek Out V2+ > X, where X is probably an Oppo PM-3. I didn't have good success with them the first time around because my glasses break the seal. I don't do IEMs though, which limits options. We'll see what comes out.

For my transportable setup, it's the above > ALO RX MK-3B > whatever full sized, harder-to-drive headphone I feel like that day.

I personally like the idea of using my smartphone when I need portable; I would rather not carry another device. So I use a usb OTG cable from my Galaxy s5 to a usb dac/amp stick (dragonfly 1.2). The usb OTG support also requires an android app, either the $8 USB Audio Pro or the free HibyMusic.

The GeekOut dac/amps are way better than the dragonfly, but cost a bit more and are a bit bulkier. I like the dragonfly size.

I love my M2. It's resolving, quite neutre although a bit hot in High mids, offers low extension , slam and an overal balanced sound. Soundstage is cohesive AND precise AND layered. the tone is quite natural (expecially for BA drivers) . Sounds good with everything and anything. HD600ish if you see what I mean.

They blow everything I heard/owned before but I didn"t hear the most expensive IEMs.

I don't use that much My IEMs in the street though. Mostly tramway, Bus, Train so I don't need a bass heavy sound sig ;)

Flac, aiff, or wav on 32MB micro SD, Moto G 2014, Onkyo player, OTG cable, Microstreamer, JVC HA-FXT100.

Almost exclusively for biking or walking, so no need for crazy expensive dac/amp or iems

    Base set up:
    Sony A17 > Leckerton > UERM

If I am riding my bike / active, the leckerton doesn't make the trip. If I left my UERM at my office, they are replaced by the a'mighty ER4. Like Austin, when the GOv2+infiniballz ever ships, it and [phone] will take the place of A17 > Leck... I think.

    iPhone 6s -> UERM.

I have a Geek Out V2+ Infinity which I really like but it gets too hot to sit in my pocket. And far too bulky. I could be pretty happy with a Geek Out Wave (when it exists).

    Dx90 -> UERM

    Or if transportable:
GO450 -> Leckerton uha-6s mkii -> UERM (basically the previous "standard" pyrate setup before the GOv2 came out)

Thanks for the feedback everybody, that's alot of UERMs, it seems. I actually mix 'n match my portable setup from a number of devices, depending on mood:

    DAPs:
    • Hard- and software-modded Iriver H120 w/ Rockbox and 64 GB SSD (usually hooked up to a DAC)
    • first-gen AK100
    • Ibasso DX50
    • Shanling M3
    • xduoo x2 (usually my backup device in case the battery dies on my primary DAP)
    DACs/amps:
    • FiiO E17
    • Matrix mini portable
    • xduoo XD-01
    • FiiO E12/E12DIY
    Headphones:
    • Oppo PM-3
    • audio-technica M50
    • Westone W4R
    • VSONIC GR07 mk2
    • LEAR LCM-A1d
    • soon: Cosmic Ears CE5P
I have literally dozens more, particularly IEMs and a bunch of earbuds, but those get used way less frequently.
